I've been checking out the Tommies  football coaching staff and find that they have an excellent staff.  Why don't we hear more about the assistant coaches?  All the attention seems to be focused on the head coach.

Any thoughts?

Either you're brilliant or lucky.  I nominate this for best post of the off-season.

Horrendous nomination, Oz.

Do you suppose that any part of being a good coach is building a good coaching staff? Do you think there are any young coaches out there who see benefit in learning under a 3 time national coach of the year? Come on, man! Caruso is a stud anyway you slice it-perhaps that's why what you've been "checking out" seems to be directed towards him. Not that it is a slight to ANY of his assistants, but when warranted the hc takes the brunt of the criticism & the glory of the praise.

Is that right? So those National Championship trophies in Collegeville mean nothing, right? :o

National Championship trophies are different than subjective awards.
I've just never been a fan of "Coach of the Year" awards.  I'd rather have my team win a National Championship than an individual get recognized.  John Gagliardi won this award in 2007 with a team that went 10-2 and lost to Coe in the second round of the playoffs by a score of 37-7.  I thought it was kind of silly that he "won" the award with a team that came up short.

If I had to pick a coach of the year in the MIAC this year it would probably be coach Haege at Augsburg.  No offense to Caruso but he should be winning at UST.  To me the coach that deserves to be honored is the coach that does more with less.

"National Championship trophies are different than subjective awards." No disputing that, but it doesn't mean that being honored by your peers as a coach of the year (3 consecutive years no less) is not something to be proud of. For the record, we like those MIAC trophies too-hoping to add a Nat'l trophy soon! You said "Trophies", not "subjective award" trophies.

As for the Haege comment, no disrespect meant here, but you can have him. We'll take Caruso seven days a week and twice on Sunday.

Let's call a spade a spade, you boys dislike GC and all things Caruso because of where he is and what he's doing. If he was at the helm of the Johns he'd be the second coming. I get it. Despite all the bitterness towards him, the guy is a hell of a coach and unfortunately (for you) you fellas aren't going to take away from that. Cheers, Faunch! ;)

The latest youtube video out of UST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uAq6I0mNHgM&list=UUoacjlyrUbUmWXI0hR7d9-A&index=6.

I don't know if it's irony but there's something fresh about a man propping himself up on his players to shout "Forget about me" while they shout back "I Love You." Give credit to USTFootballMediaMan for spinning the community service that all teams and players at the Stagg Bowl participate in for the benefit of the narrative.

He would tell his players to take a knee but all UST players have been trained to knock over anyone that kneels in front of them.

Agreed. I got a chuckle. I'd support it with a vote.
