The town "swells" to approx. 10,000,5 times it's normal size, 1 day per year!  :D

Not bad, but it's no Padua, MN!

Another recruiting update.

Jack Newell, Minnetonka HS, UST
Alex Chadwick, Farmington HS, UST

Mitch Niehaus, Melrose HS, SJU

Moise Igeno, Centennial HS, deciding between UST or GAC

Nice grab in Niehaus.  There was a lot of speculation after the SJ1 promotions about the look on Caruso's face when he ran in to Dumonceaux at the likes of Minnetonka.  Any word from the folks around there?  Someone happen to catch it on the security cameras?

I thought teams couldn't release names considering there really is no "signing" in D3 or is that from the rumor mill?? The Chadwick kid is a good athlete.

Checked out the SJU special Edition Mag...Good stuff

The big question in the Minn conference is......  will Pope Francis anoint St. Thomas football or St. John Football???  Curious minds want to know.

St. Thomas might have to seek reconciliation, after there antics near the end of the DIII championship game

Retired Old Rat

St. Thomas is automatically disqualified from eligibility as a result of having a female president.  St. John's might be as well, with a lay male leading the school.

The Roman Catholic Church has its rules.

All of the information I'm getting is through news articles, high school websites, or what they are blasting out to the world via social media.  They may not have "signed" anything, but they still want people to know that they have "committed" to play football at a school.  On that note, below is another future Tommie:

Nick Waldvogel, St. Thomas Academy, UST

Ah I see, that makes sense. I don't exactly understand why future athletes can't "sign" anything. Even if it is only to get their names in the paper or on the schools website. Especially with how big signing day is for all the bigger schools Im sure the d3 players wouldnt mind some love as well.... I think the boys up in Moorhead are doing a good job recruiting after I took a look at their twitter feed... No names tho... Hopefully they can get some names out to see.

A kid could sign whatever he wants but it can't be something provided by the college or a binding commitment.

In Division III, the football program is committing nothing to the student because there is no scholarship. It's not fair for the kid to have to commit to the program in the sense that a LOI would suggest.

Yeah, I saw their twitter feed.  I can't wait to see who they've picked up this year.  Not surprising considering how well they did last year.  However, after looking at Concordia's roster, it looks like they lost 16 starters.  They were very senior heavy.  Do you think they have the depth to replace those guys?

I did grow up with it tmert. Catholic grade school and high school, the first public school I attended was college.

I dunno, BDB, if you went to Catholic grade school and high school, you must have been indoctrinated by somebody!  Grade school would have been nuns of some order, and high school would have been priests or brothers ... and they pretty quickly point out the differences between themselves and the others.  I went to a public grade school, so I missed the nuns (until I married one) but went to an Augustinian high school and it was clear that it was them and then everyone else.  Anyway, the differences are mainly historical, related to the time and identity of their founders.  The Benedictines (the religious order at Saint John's) has a good summary of this: http://www.religious-vocation.com/differences_religious_orders.html

Oh Im not sure how many starters they lost, but they seem to at least be in the top of the MIAC year in and year out under Coach Horan. So that would leave me to believe that there is some loaded guns waiting to go after the senior class takes their last snap. I think they play JV games as well so that has to help develop the younger guys.

How many guys does a MIAC school look to bring in recruiting wise from year to year?

This varies on the size of the program- Carleton is a lot less that UST (example) and the philosophy of the Head Coach, but it could be anywhere from 5 to 50 depending on the needs of the team.
