Another shameless plug. He's not everyone's favorite, but Patrick Reusse's always been one of my writing idols and just a guy I enjoy reading or listening to. I did a Q&A with him. D3 connection? Well...er, I mention Gagliardi (of course) and Reusse was the 2012-13 winner of the Mike Augustin Award. So there.

sfury, I appreciate your shameless plug. Mr. Reusse wrote a story about me in the fall of 1970 when I was a one person cross country team/runner at my high school in Norwood Young America (Central H.S.). I went to Glencoe after school and trained with their team and ran in all their meets during the season. Many great memories!

Another recruiting update.

Jack Newell, Minnetonka HS, UST
Alex Chadwick, Farmington HS, UST

Mitch Niehaus, Melrose HS, SJU

Moise Igeno, Centennial HS, deciding between UST or GAC

I thought teams couldn't release names considering there really is no "signing" in D3 or is that from the rumor mill?? The Chadwick kid is a good athlete.

All of the information I'm getting is through news articles, high school websites, or what they are blasting out to the world via social media.  They may not have "signed" anything, but they still want people to know that they have "committed" to play football at a school.  On that note, below is another future Tommie:

Nick Waldvogel, St. Thomas Academy, UST

Ah I see, that makes sense. I don't exactly understand why future athletes can't "sign" anything. Even if it is only to get their names in the paper or on the schools website. Especially with how big signing day is for all the bigger schools Im sure the d3 players wouldnt mind some love as well.... I think the boys up in Moorhead are doing a good job recruiting after I took a look at their twitter feed... No names tho... Hopefully they can get some names out to see.

The Ear

Yeah, I saw their twitter feed.  I can't wait to see who they've picked up this year.  Not surprising considering how well they did last year.  However, after looking at Concordia's roster, it looks like they lost 16 starters.  They were very senior heavy.  Do you think they have the depth to replace those guys?

Oh Im not sure how many starters they lost, but they seem to at least be in the top of the MIAC year in and year out under Coach Horan. So that would leave me to believe that there is some loaded guns waiting to go after the senior class takes their last snap. I think they play JV games as well so that has to help develop the younger guys.

How many guys does a MIAC school look to bring in recruiting wise from year to year?
This varies on the size of the program- Carleton is a lot less that UST (example) and the philosophy of the Head Coach, but it could be anywhere from 5 to 50 depending on the needs of the team.

I see... I've been trying to research and find out who the Cobbs have committed, but there is nothing in the papers other than AJ Wheeler out of Moorhead is going to be a Cobber. So either I'm bad at researching or their doing a good job of keeping it under wraps.

Or you're just bad at shameless self promotion.

Any new recruits contemplating a choice between Alabama and UST?  Anyone?

cobbernation could probably give you a lot of info. He is very active during football season. His e-mail is available if you want it.  8-)

I believe that shot had other targets, or were you wanting to take one for UST?  (Advice: Don't do it.)

Time for a laugh?  A friend passed on a word play that made me chuckle:

Your mother asked for a double entendre, so I gave her one.

Congrats to the Bluegolds on the D3 hockey championship.  I don't follow D3 hockey much, but my thought is the privates do have a significant advantage in that sport.

To anyone who reads Reusse, I highly recommend Fury's artice.  http://tvfury.wordpress.com/2013/03/18/the-fury-files-patrick-reusse/

BDB, I knew the CCC answer.  I'm sure that's a big surprise.

My grade school nuns were the Presentation Sisters from Aberdeen, SD.  And they worked really hard to indoctrinate us.  I had my knuckles smacked with a ruler more than once at St. Stephen's in Anoka.  For the most part I got the benefit of the doubt since my uncle was a Monsignor.  Can't imagine what the nuns would have done to TDT if they were still there when he attended.

I wouldnt be surprised if TDT has spent a night or two surfing German pron sites imagining the same thing.

Oz,
I see your "Thunderhawks" Boys Basketball team from The Rapids will be representing in Minneapolis come Thursday. Hockey has been in a slump as of late, but the boys on the hardwood make another appearance at state.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

The Indian hockey team did have a win over the 2012 champs on Pokegama this year.  http://www.foxsportsnorth.com/pages/photogallery?gid=26177&gf=aggregate

I'm still an Indian at heart. I'll never be a Thunderhawk. What the heck is that made up name anyway?  My kids actually know the school fight song from my younger days. Every time they notice the letter jacket in the cupboard I break out in the old tune (they think I'm Zac Efron from High School Musical. Or they did when they were a little more gullible).

I'm not surprised, with three teams in the D3 Elite Eight.
