Pat ...

Thanks for listing the schedules for all D3 teams in one spot.  That is much appreciated.

GO SPARTANS!

Janesville Flash, the artist formerly known as Old Pa, is having cataract surgery today.  I'm sure he would appreciate a ration of smart comments thrown his way.  Good thoughts and prayers, as well.

Let me be the first to wish a happy birthday to my much older friend Finsleft.  I hope the VFW remembered to stock up on Hamms again this year.

He'll be shocked when he realizes the woman he's been hitting on in JCPenny is actually a male manequin.
Good luck, hope all goes well.

If you're in contact with flash, ROR, please let him know that he's missed around here. Hopefully with his eyes cleaned up he can come back for a reunion tour. Also please let him know that we're thinking of him and wishing him well.

I see that "outspoken" Kluwe has been released by the Vikings (http://min.scout.com/2/1289638.html).  The article has a few short sentences on the new punter draft pick and then a whole article on the things Kluwe did and the friction it caused with Vikings management and coaches.

Does everything need to be political now days?  I don't mean election politics, but I mean political in always looking for an angle or on untoward reason for anything. Nothing is straight forward anymore like: after 6 1/2 years the Vikes drafted a new and younger punter. Cause that doesn't happen often. Rather unexpected in the NFL.  Of course, that would never have got a hit from me to read the article. Hit whores. Tiring.

Straight forward can neither be used to describe Kluwe's shanked punts or his favorite political action group.  I don't see why they even bothered drafting a new punter.  With Cordy, Juice, All-Day and Greg we won't be punting........  maybe we could teach Ponder to punt.

Here's how you do it Christian. Drop the ball like so, kick it with your foot, and the goal is that it wobbles and turns over, just like your passes do. Only here, the other team is supposed to catch it!  ;D

I found this interesting, although it appears to have a heavy West Coast (and anti-Midwest) bias. How could Milwaukee, St. Louis, Cincinatti and the Twin Cities NOT make this list?

I realize that we just had a conversation about posting links instead of full-text, but I am not cool with the SC Times and their recent practice of "limited viewing", so here is the full text.  No scholarship info removed.  ;D

QuoteRajkowski Column: Johnnies Set Spring Game Format

COLLEGEVILLE — It will be the offense against the defense when the St. John's football team holds its first Red and White spring game at 7 p.m. Friday at Clemens Stadium.
New head coach Gary Fasching and his coaching staff finalized the format for the game Monday.

Players will take the field at 6:30 p.m. The national anthem will follow at 7. From there, the first three quarters will be played like an actual game except that kickoffs and punts will not be returned. On a punt, the next drive will start where the return man fields the ball. On kickoffs, the return man will catch the ball and the next drive will start at the 25-yard line.

The offense will score points traditionally, but will also score one point for a first down and two points for plays of 15 or more yards. The defense will receive six points for a touchdown, four points for a sack, three points for a turnover, two points for a stop on fourth down, and one point each for both a 3-and-out and a tackle-for-a-loss.

At the end of the first half, the team's two kickers will have a chance to try field goals. Each kicker will have three tries from the 30-yard line and three tries from the 40-yard line with minimal defensive pressure. There will also be a halftime of around 15 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, the team will work on goal line offense and defense, 7-on-7 and hold three overtime series where the ball will start at the 25-yard line.

"We think we'll be able to get everybody a pretty good amount of reps and still get a lot of specialty things in as well," Fasching said. "The key thing is to make sure we keep everybody healthy, but still get a look at a lot of people."

Fasching said the spring game will be conducted at full-speed level.

"There will be a quick whistle, but we'll bring down running backs," Fasching said. "The quarterback will be off limits. But it will be full speed."

The game is free and open to the public. But the team will be accepting donations to help pay for its trip to Regina, Saskatchewan, for a pair of scrimmages against the Regina Thunder, a Canadian junior team, on May 18.

Friday's game will also be broadcast live on the team's flagship radio station WBHR (660 AM).

Scrimmage under lights... interesting.  I wonder how many anti-lights campaigners are excited about the scrimmage made possible (in part) by those lights.  This campaigner didn't realise that he had changed his mind until he thought of the question.  I still don't want them to play actual games under lights but after seeing my reaction to the scrimmage, I'm not too sure that I would still protest a Saturday night game.
