Ah, but I was so much older then

I'm younger than that now.

Duff might get a kick out of this.  My nephew and brother-in-law caught a mess of panfish but left them overnight in the basket.  The next morning my brother-in-law came back from fishing and discovered a snapping turtle in the basket.  Here's the video I shot on my phone of extracting it from the basket...the audio didn't fully upload for some reason...enjoy.

Ha ha!  Easy pickings.  I have seen a bowfin (aka dogfish) attack a basket of sunfish attached to our dock.  Tenacious buggers!

This begs the question, did the turtle become dinner?  Not a whole lotta meat on that little fella, though.

No...he got away...I was thinking turtle soup.
My brother-in-law and nephew went out later on Saturday and boated about 50 crappies...of course I had gone home early...oh well.
Here is what they kept.

That's very Stearns County of you.  Turtle soup is pretty tasty, though.  It's a favorite of my dad's family.

There's an ungoing investigation looking for a turtle murderer in our area now.  It revolves around a snapping turtle who had gone into a sand trap at a local golf course apparently to lay eggs.  Anyway some golfer saw it and attacked it with a golf club.  The turtle was seriously injured and later died.  Now the authorities are trying to identify the responsible golfer to arrest them.  There is a reward of $10,800 (and growing) for information that leads to their arrest.
