Congratulations Blake!! ;D

"The USA Football Network, Inc. has named its Division III Receiver of the Year award in honor of former Saint John's University award-winning student-athlete Blake Elliott '03."

That's a bit arrogant if SJU to post a link to that on thier football website. I bet it's even the first news link and will stay the first news link until there is other news to displace it. Disgraceful.

And where was the "BC of the Midwest - Humility Trophy"?  How did that get missed?  These clowns at USA Football Network don't even know the playahs.

To be clear, I have no problem with a "Blake Elliott" award, considering his talent expressed during the time.  However, I do find it a bit funny that such an accolade would be given considering that it's ten years out and the Johnnies basically suck.  Again, nothing against Elliott, it's just sort of like the Vikings referencing an award named for Randy Moss--they've had some great players, but in the end they tend to be losers.
Did you even read the article? These are position awards given out by USA Football Network- named after outstanding player in that position-in the opinion of USA Football Network. So when was the last time John Carroll University was at the top of the OAC,yet they had the audacity to to allow London Fletcher's name to be associated with the award. The same can be said about Pete Metzalars and Wabash. But then again, when was the last time a Tommie let facts influence a discussion?

Yeah, so just ignore my last post.  I was talking a load of BS...

This makes the second award named in honor of an SJ1 football legend, correct?

And the first to named by a group not associated with the University  ;)

Does Kehres have an award in his name?  Probably should....but what? Coach of the Year? Or is that being reserved for Caruso after he receives the award for the fifth time after a third loss in the national championship game?
The last shall be first and the shall be.......

Did you think Blake came up with this award himself?

I dare anyone to attempt to navigate the websites associated with the USA Football Network for more than 5 minutes without becoming blind or angry.    http://www.usacollegefootballnetwork.com/

Wow...this guy is still around?  I'd bet this is the same guy that ran USAfootball.com during the late 90's/early 2000's before he sold the site URL in 2003.  I'd put zero stock into anything this guy is trying to sell or prop up as legit.

I had an experience with his organization after my senior season with regards to a pay-to-play "all-star" game.  If you want to hear my crying here is what Keith posted up back in 2009 in dealing with this guy.

Yeah, Dennis Wilson is still kicking around and that's his deal.

Wow.  That is spectacularly awful.  I'm almost motivated to learn an HTML editor just to redesign that for them and protect humanity.  My favorite insanity on that first page are the five sets of "MMMMM" in the last line.  That page is so horrible that the guy who made it doesn't even scroll to the bottom and see that it isn't finished.

(And thanks, AO.  My hands had already grown fur when I was 14 and now I'm blind too.  What am I going to do now?)

D3football.com is supposed to be posting their preseason Top 25 in the next 24 hours, per their Facebook page.  Any guesses as to where the MIAC squads will sit?  Here is hoping two make the top ten.

St. Thomas 3
Bethel 15
Concordia 25

Pat Coleman

Although not all of the ballots are in, it's very likely Bethel will be Top 10. St. Thomas is a lock for the top four.

isnt he the one who habitually put schools in the wrong state (I think he had Beloit in IND one time), had a 1st team All-American DE who was an OL in reality and other such strange things?

Still, it is a hell of an honor for BE that his name was chosen to be associated with this award. There have been many outstanding WRs in D3, which makes it truly an honor.  Not sure why every time something like this happens, there needs to be childish Johnnie/Tommie bashing and bickering. Its nice to see someone from our little corner of the sports world get national recognition....no need to sully it with ragging on one another. (save the ragging for Game Week and Game Day)
After the game, the king and pawn go into the same box.

Didn't anyone but me notice that he has no award for a defensive lineman?

Retired Old Rat

That may be the worst web site I've ever seen.  As part of my job I have seen a lot.

I hate to say it, but it certainly diminishes the prestige of the award.

Yeah....certainly does, unfortunately.  I realize it is slow and SIDs are not on top of things, but a quick survey of pages run by the other schools honored does not show anyone else with a press release on the news.  Wonder if they see right through it.

Oz your sarcastic remark about the headline being a bit arrogant.....well, I'll chalk it up to the kid behind the desk at SJ1 just being on top of things.

If these awards turn out to be a sham, maybe someone will run with the idea and make it legit.

Well, after reading about WC11's experience I fear there may be an exclusive EOY event for some lucky nominations which they can attend for a small fee...

And you are correct, ROR.  This thread has certainly diminished both the award and the press release in my eyes.

A couple of interesting links for you all.

First, a South Korean gymnast throwing an opening pitch in style.

Second, a disturbing story with a quote made for quoting:

Man stabs dad with scissors then saws off his own hands

"This is definitely the craziest thing that's ever happened on this street," Rinehart said.
