UST almost snags #1...BU#8, Cobbers #27, Augsburg gets 1 vote.

I think Augsburg will be much more dangerous than the Cobbers this year. Concordia was Sr. heavy team last year. Augsburg returns tons of talent.

My prediction:
U$T will not get through the season unscathed...BU, the Corn-holes, Auggie-Tech and / or even SJU could knock them off.  Scott the QB at Augs could end up being one of the best the MIAC has ever seen.

A couple of interesting links for you all.

First, a South Korean gymnast throwing an opening pitch in style.

Second, a disturbing story with a quote made for quoting:

Man stabs dad with scissors then saws off his own hands

"This is definitely the craziest thing that's ever happened on this street," Rinehart said.

I was trying to figure out how he sawed off his second hand until I read that he was using a power tool.

"Police suspect an argument led to the stabbing and believe the younger man cut off his own hands using a radial saw."

Bet he had one hell of a hangover.

Pat - how much scrutiny do you expect UMU to get this season from voters?  Will it be the case that as long as they win, they'll stay at #1 - as in a win is a win.  Or will close games and poor individual performances show up in the polls?

Ron,

We have always had some voters who are willing to change No. 1 votes midseason even if a team keeps winning. I doubt those people will change their philosophies this year.

Yes, and I know you guys have seen him play. He has talent around him too and that will help. If they can avoid injuries, I think the Auggies will be solid this year and finish somewhere in the top 25 at the least.

Thanx for all the well wishes concerning my daughter's wedding. Had a blast walking her down the aisle!

Now, on to other things. Fun to come back on the board to catch up; got some chuckles and even let out a guffaw or two.

Throwing my two pennies into the mix with the following pre-season ranking of the MIAC teams:

1. UST - the only team that really has a chance at stopping them from running the table this year is Bethel, and only if they are healthy and play their A game. It helps that this is played at Bethel this year, but they could also get their hats handed to them just like last year if they don't buckle down and focus.

2. Bethel - but it could slip away from them if they let Augsburg, St. Olaf or Concordia beat them in addition to a loss to St. Thomas. If they beat the Tommies, then it gets kind of crazy, as I think the Oles don't match up well against them as shown in the games from the last two years. And they had the ball bounce their way last year against the Cobbers.

3. Augsburg - young gun slinger shows his stuff and surprises those not aware.

4. St. Olaf - This squad might beat other MIAC teams that lose to other teams, as the middle of the heap is a quagmire this year.

5. Concordia - as some have mentioned already, seems that a lot of talent graduated and they might still surprise and move up a spot or two, but unlikely.

6. St. John's - I know many of you out here on this board believe the Johnnies are unbeatable, but a new coach and all the baggage that goes with it goes against them doing much better than last year.

7 Gustavus - They might displace the Johnnies if they can beat them while at home this year.

8. Carleton - Hoping they can beat the Pipers and stay ahead of them.

9. Hamline - Tough situation for the players in this program. For the seniors it will be their third coach while they were there (not counting interims) - it's just a bad situation that the new coach will try to turn around.

So it's decided then? TFPIC (tongue firmly planted in cheek)

It's Friday Down Under!  Three cheers for Anna!

EDIT: And thanks, BDB, for sharing such a monumental milestone with us here at the MIAC.

Art, although it may take 2-3 years for SJU to regain the #1 spot, I foresee them doing better than #6 in 2013.  We'll see how that shakes out.

A tradition unrivaled...

National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

Regarding the MIAC prediction; St.Olaf loses that very good qb from last year so i think St. Johns takes that spot. The top three are right  on in my book but i think the order might look different at the end of the year.

Yeah, Dennis Wilson is still kicking around and that's his deal.
isnt he the one who habitually put schools in the wrong state (I think he had Beloit in IND one time), had a 1st team All-American DE who was an OL in reality and other such strange things?

Still happening. Linfield and Pacific Lutheran aren't in California, Franklin isn't in Illinois and Trine isn't in Ohio. I didn't look past the first team, though. I'm sure there's more.
