Mr.MIAC

Just an observation, but I'm listening to the UWRF commentators and it strikes me that they seem to approach DIII football from a different perspective.  They're almost talking about it as though they're giving commentary on a high school game (the players are "kids," seemingly low expectations, questioning confident play, etc.).  Meanwhile, the UST broadcasters give the impression that we're watching potential draft picks.

Johnnie fans who can't make it to the games must love it when they play away.
It's been a hot-button topic for fans for years, but the administration refuses to budge on the issue.

jeezus  Rev, UWRF uses producing the audio and video streams of the games as a learning experience. (Other than currently using the head BB coach for color commentary) they are college students. It's a beautiful thing.

The WRFW guys are good, not just "good for students" but good. Last guy who had that job is doing radio for a living. This group is on their second year.

Do you think its possible or even make sense to have a D3 TV Network to televise game on ESPN Oucho " from the movie Dodge Ball" or something??? I have 500 or more channels of crap on most of the time. Again with all the D3 schools there has to be a play for it.  What do you guys think??
.  The BigTen is realizing how difficult it can be to have your own station.  It is solid in the fall with football's domination of television dollars.  BigTen basketball is second to none.  The problem is there are a lot of nights and weekend days after football season where the programs are just bad.  It is why the BigTen added hockey, and even more telling the latest round of expansion to include lacrosse.  Johns Hopkins joined the BigTen as an associate member for lacrosse to help with television.  In Texas I have to suffer through the Longhorn Network instead of CBS College Sports.  There are several times I am wondering why that station just doesn't show Dr. Phil with a scrolling depression help line on the bottom.
The big ten network isn't struggling, adding hockey is a money grab, not an act of desperation.  I wish D3 SIDS would put more effort into making high quality highlights on youtube.  Put a student on the sideline with a camera, don't be satisfied with the lower quality webcast footage from the press box.

To be very clear, in no way was I saying that the commentators are doing a bad job.  I'm just pointing out that different teams take different approaches to broadcasting.  UWRF seems to use it as an opportunity for student development; UST relies on professional broadcasters.  That choice means that the viewing experience differs, and this is obvious.  That being said, regardless of the approach it seems that UWRF should upgrade their equipment.  My wife came in the room and asked if I was watching old football clips.

I just wish SJU would allow video for out of state people.  Some of us have wives that won't allow us to travel from Michigan to watch a game, which would be a short trip for OZ.

That's probably the highest compliment Dave Lee and Eric Nelson have ever received. Are you related to them both? Even when the "Good Neighbor" was broadcasting *Gopher football games Dave Lee wasn't what I would call professional. A lackey for where his $$$ is coming from? Oh sure.

Well regardless of what you think of the "Good Neighbor," WCCO is clearing well within the realm of professional.

Agreed, Dave Lee is terrible.  If he really was good he wouldn't be doing DIII football, he would have gotten a gig with another D1 program

I was always shocked when UST went with the Old Neighbor.  I didn't think appealing the the 70 year old demographic was their thing.  Seriously who listens to WCCO except old people.

His daughter is at UST and he's a very strong supporter of the university.  Considering the gains he's made in his career thus far, I don't think he needs to prioritize a DI gig over staying close to (F.A.M.I.L.Y).

What other D-I program in the area would he be calling? His overall gig is better than he would be getting elsewhere.

The people who are bagging on Dave Lee CLEARLY have not heard some of the crappy broadcasters who call D-I games out there.

Lee's voice is fine. My issue is every kid playing for his team is headed towards sainthood. Every team has good and bad apples. Just let me know down, distance, time and score.
