Of all the Tommies on the board, I'm happy to see you're one of the few that came back, Bench (not that I had any legitimate doubts you would come back).

I have a feeling things are going to be "a little ronery" for Tommie backers on the board.

+K to you for being a stand-up fella from the corner of Cretin and Summit.

Meidt translated the Northfield runestone, discovered in a Ole practice field. Um Yah Yah, he declared, means "take out their knees."

SJU has a defense that might take them to a conference title, it'd be really cool to see two teams from the MIAC this year. I just hope one them is UST.

Oh, I don't think we need to go there yet.  If we can play hard against CON, BU and AUG then we'll be pretty happy.  Snag a win or two from them and make sure we don't drop any to the others and we'll have ourselves a very good season.  One to be proud of.  But I don't think we're quite back to vying for the championship.

Also, I don't think other teams will see the same UST.  I bet this splash of cold water keeps their focus for the rest of the year.

I do wonder about the distraction (or at least what would be a distraction for me) of the F.A.M.I.L.Y and hand holding.  Will it go away?  Does it distract from the decision making, discipline and execution needed to be a top team?  It's something to think about.  Every brain cycle spent on gimmicks is one not spent on considering the present situation.

What do you think?  Will UST becomes Kings of the Cheapshot?  Will Meidt's legacy finally fall?

Oz - I'm late to this show - how does Meidt and Meidt's legacy fit with the topic of personal fouls and other assorted cheap shots? Just wondering . . .

While he was coaching at STO this board ran riot with discussion of the team consistently leading the league in personal fouls.  Cheap shot academy.

Thanks for filling me in on that bit of history.  :)

I'm thinking that's exactly true. And since I'm pulling for another school, I'm not really happy about that. The thing I love about this game is that it has to be played out on the field. It's not up to a few judges to declare who the winner will be.

It looks to me like Linfield should be ranked first.   8-)

I wonder if the Toms will tolerate the same degree of hair-splitting from Linfield fans as we witnessed on the MIAC board roughly 10 days ago?

"We're only 8 points out of first, we shouldn't be #2! If anything, we should be ranked as co-#1 teams!"

I'm surprised by those results.  I didn't expect the Johnnies to crack the top 25 unless they also won next week.  But since UST fell to just #6 then I guess it makes sense.  (The Jays go from zero votes to 122?  That's a pretty big leap.)

I'm not surprised by the virtual three-way toss up at the top of the list, however.  If this season keeps playing out like it is there could be some mighty big games come the post season.  The final eight could turn into some real "Clash of the Titans" type contests.

EDIT: And if I had any of those three top teams on my upcoming schedule I would be very nervous.  They will be looking to thrash everyone they meet in order to get to the top.  There may be a number of very brutal beatings this year for the lesser teams.

Interesting post on the WIAC board:

The Johnnie win was good news from my stand point, mostly because Caruso's attitude, as exhibited when he bullied the women assigned to greet the UST bus when it arrived in RF, was pure arrogance. He complained to them that 120 lockers in the visitors locker room were not enough, that he could not use an adjacent locker room even though it was being used by another team, and generally, according to the guy in charge of Knowles Center, acted the part of someone used to better treatment and accommodations. This even though the KC Chiefs left us with locker room facilities second to those in very few d3 schools.

How does this kind of behavior square with his two time winning of the Sportsman of the Year Award (probably not the right title), an accolade given by an insurance company, I think,  for sportsmanship in football coaching? John Gagliardi he is not.

If this were some crackpot I would not post it here.  fredfalcon is a straight shooter.

Speaking of #pilingon, PC hasn't banned the infamous Tommie posters has he?

Well, I'm urging to despise St Glenn as much as the next guy, but I'm pretty sure that Anthony Wiener he ain't.

My guess: he's a good person and a good coach who has had about a six year run of ever increasing success from MAC to UST and it's distorted his perspective a bit. Was he doing F.A.M.I.L.Y at MAC with the hand holding and all?  Isn't that just the last two years or has it been longer?

Anyway, I don't think he'll leave UST or collapse at the first hint of adversity, unfortunately. We'll have to beat him the old fashioned way. But I'm feeling pretty good about that because the team has played better each week and avoided mistakes from previous weeks. I'm thinking we may have some very good years ahead of us under Fasching. I think lightening will strike twice. And it's going to be damn fun.

A week ago I was having lunch with one of my suppliers who is from Dubuque.  He found out I was originally from Mpls., and said his son looked at playing football at UST (ended up at St. Ambrose).  Said they met with Caruso and found him to be a little weird.

Capn34

I gave Chicago Tommie the benefit of the doubt that he spent time with his son yesterday and had a long drive back to Chicago today, but he should be home by now.  Time for him to show back up for his helping of Crow followed by Humble pie for dessert.

Actually just want his perspective on the game and atmosphere as this is his first Johnnie Tommie game...now that he has probably gained some perspective.

I'm already anticipating next year's Johnnie-Tommie game, particularly if both teams finish this season well. It will be an emotionally charged neutron bomb of an environment. In fact, I told Mrs Oz last night that I must return next year during football season to visit the folks.

Sept 27, 2014. Look out St Paul, here I come.
