Plus I think the Cobbers are set for a perfect sleeper year. Everyone is paying attention to the big three and I would not be surprised to see the cornfield beef come rambling down I94 with intent. It's happened before.

Cobbs are definitely not to be forgotten.

Even though they got a little bit of pre-season hype, with all of this potential shuffling with SJU being back in the mix at the forefront of conversation, Augsburg could also be forgotten about and become a sleeper that sneaks up on teams....not sure what to make of their struggles with Gustavus though.

Where is that poster from the other conference....could use his unbiased take on slandering an opponents head coach after you've beaten them.  I'm sure at least he'd take the suicide comments to task .... you loose a few friends to suicide and you stop using it as a joke.

As far as Caruso is concerned.  My current thinking is this....

Character: He is a Greenwich CT guy threw and threw.  If you don't like it, take it up with society in general. The fact is he came to the lowly old prairie that we so feverishly protect and won a head coaching job at 33(?) - a spot we generally save for 40/50 something's in our culture.  He then went on to out recruit and out coach most of his peers in the area - with the CT attitude.  It's worked for him....and I don't see him changing anytime soon. I think it is a little petty for folks in our community to try and run some smear campaign in the meantime.

Future: As long as the Tommie's are winning I'm not going to get terribly upset about who the coach is (will still criticize decisions). Personally I like what happened at Gonzaga basketball with Few taking over after Monson left and would be delighted to see that unfold at UST.  So if GC leaves that's fine, but I'm not going to push him out. In the meantime the only way he gets the call from his dream school is with more winning - which is good for UST.

Ron, this is an honest question.  I don't have time to go back and read all the posts.  What post(s) do you think rise to the level of slander?

Slandering was a quick way of saying continuing the smear campaign that has evolved on this board.  By definition slandering includes making things up, and so I admit that there have not been any obvious lies told that I can call out.  I'll refrain from using the word slander. That said, there is a healthy amount of exaggeration in the opinions expressed.  That's not illegal, but not consistent with the "class" being defined by some here.....another example of the double standards mentioned.

The way these smear campaigns pan out is that the opinions fester until an example can be had.  Generally an experience with the individual that is retold to match the opinions.  Certainly FredFalcon has his own predispositions which make the story lop sided.  And it also happens to be a cliche story in college athletics - easy to shape into your opinion.  Nearly every coach has some issue with the host facilitates on game day - easy to spin to make them look like an ass.

It all reminds me again of politics....democrats spreading dirty laundry about a young republican star.

Don't take this point to call me naive....I realize smoke/fire.  And as I posted, I think this is more the CT personality in Caruso than anything intentional.  In rereading posts I noticed Oz called CG "a good person and a good coach"....appreciated and as much as he rags on Caruso this balanced take is classy.  I should have highlighted it earlier.

As deep as the MIAC is right now, no one can get overlooked. I think there are probably only 5 teams (UST, SJU, BU, Conc, Aug) with any realistic shot, talent-wise, of winning the league. But Olaf and GAC could beat any of those 5 if they fell asleep for a week or even just had a rough game. Case in point: GAC almost got Augsburg last week and they played UST tight last year, Olaf beat Bethel last year.

I think it's highly unlikely we end up with 3 one loss teams, even less likely they each lose to one another. I think this is going to be one crazy year in the MIAC. Should make things fun down the stretch.

What is this CT personality or attitude?  Half the people from CT want to be New Yorkers and the other half wants to be MassHoles.

So, you throw out an accusation, take it back, and then bad mouth fredfalcon.

He doesn't have a dog in this fight.  He repeated the story as it was conveyed to him by a reliable source.

If you're going to continue to claim the high ground, better install a mirror up there and use it.

I too believe GC is a good coach and a good person.  It's not his aggressive nature that grates on me.  It is his practice of saying it's about the team while he makes sure the spotlight is focused on him.  Actions speak louder than words.

This ignorant, totally out of left field comment really clarifies things for me.  Now I get where Ron is coming from.

Will save me a lot of time when reading the board in the future.

QuoteNo problem with it. (students storming the playing field) They beat their rival and the #2 team in the country after 3 losses in a row to UST. Plus, UST fans did it at SJU. Big win for them.
I believe it is against NCAA regulations. It was why LINFIELD put up barriers and announces every quarter the NCAA regulation after the Mishap In the Mud years ago.
Let's go conservative and say what if a the field was cleared and toms got another chance at a field goal because of penalty on the fans?

QuoteAlso, you heard it here first.  The 9-1 Johnnies, 9-1 Royals, and 9-1 Tommies will be going dancing this year.

Even though I wear red colored glasses it entirely possible that the Johnnies could finish as bad as 7-3. I sure hope not but 'cha never know.

So be it. Who volunteers to go to JurassKickedPark and play the WILDCATS;D

I believe those ncaa rules only apply during the playoffs.  Linfield puts up a fence in case #71 from Hardin Simmons is wandering around pretending not to hear whistles.

I didn't take it back completely....just reworded it to not be as strong.  I'm sure fredfalcon is a good guy and posting this story on the WIAC board, and not the MIAC board, is probably consistent with that.  But you write me off as just bad mouthing him....well that is a convenient response for you.  After a smear campaign over a few years on the MIAC board generates a story outside of the board, you pick it up and use it here.....and claim it is an unbiased account, that can not be critiqued.

Now by insisting I use a mirror....you are accusing me of being a hypocrite.  Don't see how.  I've said I view this place as a little more formal than a bar.  If I've ever made too harsh of a statement, I quickly redefine it (as did here).  I didn't start this talk of morality and class...that was the SJ1 posters last week.  Go ahead with the Caruso smear campaign....don't care.  But even the guy telling tasteless jokes in the bar knows that going after someone's character can quickly turn against himself.

Go ahead and reply, I'll listen....but like I said, would prefer to have PC police this board and I'll go back to doing that now that Tommie/Johnnie week is over.

....I understand your gripes with Caruso.  Saturday's halftime was another example for everyone here I'm sure.  Gene McGivern, the SID, as UST is very good at his job.  He can promote - before UST football sold itself, he routinely put earrings on that pig.  All those players on the Good Works...that's Gene.  I'm guessing he steered Saturday's festivities as well.....it was more than Caruso, the hall of fame was recognized as well.  Gene and his staff probably photo shopped the hand holding picture as well.  A lot of the Caruso first examples overlap with work Gene and team do.....so I think that is part of it.  Don't think Caruso obsesses over the look and feel of the pictures Gene puts out.  Maybe Gene is going to far....hard to knock a guy who works so hard.  For what its worth, he is pretty unbiased as he also helped organize the celebration on the UST field back in 2003 that recognized Gagliardi for his 400th(?) win.

Hey Ron you can fill in your quote now, " and SJU shall be #1 in the conference"  :)
Anyway fun to be talking playoffs even if it is way too early-better than looking at 500 season again.

Didn't take the course on reading between the lines at UST......someone is gonna have to spell this out for me.

Political analogies on the board are usually met with scorn.
I learned this one the hard way.

It's a no-win situation. You could've reversed your analogy to say Republicans spreading dirty laundry about a young Democrat star and the same amount of vitriol  would result, only it would be from a different group of people on the board. Best advice is to simply stay away from making those kinds of analogies--even if you think they are rather subtle.
