No disrespect to VOJ but the STO play-by-play guy is my new favorite guy. Yes, he can't follow the play.  And, yes, he's a hopeless homer. And, yes, he is largely unfamiliar with the rules of college football and makes no effort to learn the opposition sides names.  But he has the most melodic, slow Minnesota accent that I've heard in 25 years. It's like I was listening to my grandpa call the game. Or more accurately melodically ramble about things vaguely football related which may or may not have been taking place on the field.

A masterful performance.

These are the same reasons I used to love listening to Phil Rizzuto do Yankee games on radio and later TV.  He would just go off on a tangent telling some kind of story and all of a sudden "Hey, did you see that double play White?  When did the Orioles get a runner on first?"  Guys like that are just classic on all levels.

I have a super busy day tomorrow so could one of you please ask Gary in the live chat why the number changes on road games never seem to get communicated to the announcers? Example- we all knew Battis was out even though he was announced as the starter. Ben Brown was playing center and was wearing #74 instead of #71. Everyone in the stands thought Colin Fisher (listed as #74 in the program) was playing center. Also, Jack Hedlund was wearing #53 instead of his #67 at right tackle. There isn't a #53 listed for the Johnnies in the St. Olaf program.
Perhaps this is a way to keep the octogenarians engaged during the game.....heck it keeps me guessing  :D

If my memory is correct I think the chat forums on SCTimes.com open well before the chat start time. If you find 5 free minutes at the start of the day you could probably get your question in. I haven't decided what theme I'm going with yet but uniform numbers and roster listings isn't near the top. Maybe you could throw it out to Frank today during the Extra Points chat. The only problem is he'd give you some answer full of caveats and we don't need anymore of that.

In looking forward to the coming week's games I'll go on record as saying that all the visiting squads have a shot at beating the home town boys - even Carleton at Macalester.

Now, if I could just get the hang of how many points each team will put on the boards so I could be doing better on the pick-ems.

Anybody got any follow-up on Ayrton's hamstring pull - at least that's what it looked like when watching the game? Without him, Augsburg would be a different team I'm thinking.

Also, ask him about streaming SJU games.

Since I've already inquired about that I was thinking of asking about hand holding and victory bells.

That about sums it up with him.  I am beginning to wonder if we could get Mountain Man from Duck Dynasty to join him on a broadcast.  Please tell me there are others on this board that watch that show.

Enjoyed watching the first half of the St Olaf stream on Sat. Thanks to Apple TV I was able to watch it on my TV screen and wasn't limited to the smaller iPad. My father, 71 years old, was over this weekend and watched it with me. He referenced how much TV watching and technology has changed since he grew up in Blue Earth, MN, where they only had 3 channels on their black and white TV.

The streaming debate has been beat to death more times than Don Roney's who is #1 discussion. The comment by my dad though does highlight a bit of how SJU is missing the boat. My dad is not a tech guy and wouldn't/couldn't watch an online stream on his own even if he tried. But even he is aware of how new platforms are available and teams/schools/etc are using them.

The athletic department has some serious upgrades they are fundraising for. I imagine having the opportunity to watch the Johnnies play would be a welcomed opportunity for deep pocketed alumni who the school is hoping will donate to the projects. At the same time deep pocketed alums probably aren't concerned with video streaming. I think we have one on this board...hey Fury, would you be willing to dig deeper into your pockets if you could watch games?

Phil was simply following in the fine line of announcing that Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese started when they did games on YBS, er, CBS, before moving to NBC.

Any Tommies have a take on the two backup QBs that filled in for O'Connell this past weekend? I didn't get to watch the game.

I believe you're thinking of those who work in Big Advertising.

I'd fork over something, not sure how much.

Big Advertising hits close to home but I'm relatively local so I'm assuming SJU would hope I'd make it to Clemens Stadium vs watching a stream. Speaking of which, I'll be unable to attend the 2003 National Championship reunion this Sat. I hope they still move forward with the ceremony.

Why wouldn't they move forward with the ceremony?  Did I miss something?

Because their top flight scout team receiver from that year (me) can't make it.
