2013 for the Tommie's goes down as the season they fumbled away.  It was the weakest link in the proverbial chain and it cost them the season.  The rest of the links in the chain are strong, and some the biggest and best in the country.  The program as a whole is still in good shape and the team will have all the pieces in place for a big run next year.  I'm hoping we look as 2013 smashed in between two Stagg bowl runs and ask what happened that year?......fumbles, will be the answer.

(I realize more issues than just fumbles on this team....but those could have been worked out along the way during what would have been an undefeated season had the fumbleitis not set in.)

Caruso champions not making the same mistake twice....which makes the fumbles issue all the more frustrating.  This wasn't his best year of coaching.....but I think it will drive him to work all the harder and get everything out of this squad in the offseason.

Great teams don't put themselves in a position that allows for officiating to dictate the result.

True, but very few teams ever reach that level of greatness....

Many thoughts on the game at Bethel yesterday.  Bethel certainly has the poise of a champion, did a nice job taking punches and finishing.

Going into the season for the Tommies a loss to Bethel was not considered surprising nor season ending.  All the more reason to be upset about the St Johns loss - yesterday's squad would not have lost to SJ1.  Which begs the question......what do we make of O'Connell and Braddock for next year?

No question begging and no yesterday's squad blah blah blah.  They lost and it would not surprise to see them take another for the L column!

I think you are more than a bit out over your ski tips.  In a parallel universe one would assume that other teams in the conference will at least meet if not best the season over season improvement of UST; a check you seem ready to cash today.  Doesn't work that way.

The silence from St Paul is deafening...

While you wait for the regulars maybe you can expound upon the big Johnnie win this weekend?  I haven't heard how great the defense was or how Ramler really shook it up again this weekend, putting up some big numbers.

That wasn't the case the last time a young UST team lost to a senior laden Bethel squad.

A few highlights from the Bethel - Tommie game

One thing I love seeing is after the clip of Hilbrands touchdown on the slant.

Looks like the last TD by Marquardt- Johnson gave GC  his own version of the A$$hole play,QB rolling right & throwing back left to the RB for the TD!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

SJU still won-that is what good teams do.
Love the excuses-couldn't that other teams are better? Na,  you guys just beat yourselfs-makes sense.

The fine Johnnie Freshman RB,Certeza, had another 100 yard rushing day. The fine Soph. DB, Warner, had another interception. The fine Soph. WR,Bungam, went over 100 receptions for his career. The fine Freshman Punter,Toomey, averaged 40.2 yards per punt on 4 punts with 3 inside the 20. The fine Freshman place kicker,Johnson, had another FG.The fine Jr. LB,Rose, again was the team leader with 10 tackles. The fine Jr. DE,Workman, and the fine Soph. LB,Matuska, each had 2 more sacks. Oh yea, did I mention all these guys are underclassmen and boy did they improve from last season, can't wait to see what another year with a dedicated  strength and conditioning coach and their individual work with position coaches, something new to the staff & coaching philosophy since naming Gary HC will bring in the future.

I for one am pleasantly surprised with the dramatic improvements with the SJU squad this year. They are winning the close games that they had been losing over the past couple of seasons. The turn around is far from complete, but I'd say is ahead of schedule.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

retagent

You forgot to mention that the Johnnies got the win without the #2 in their 1-2 punch at RB because Soph RB Sura was hurt and didn't play. ;D

You are a sad little fellow.  You are so trapped in your <fill in the blank> for SJU that you can't see the forest from the trees.  I don't think any of the SJU folks ever claimed this season was about putting the capstone on the chimney.  Rather, expectations have been very measured as the foundation is built out this season.  I can tell, this bothers and worries you, as it should.

Me, I took the points and Carelton.  I expected a win, but not the point spread AO offered.  Conference (coaching staff) dynamics have changed and that is, for me, the beauty in John's retirement.

I have no dog in this fight but did anyone else think the pass interference call on UST at the goal line was suspect? 3rd and 10 and the penalty gives Bethel 1st and goal at the 2. Tough call to make in that situation with the db turned and looking for the ball. Others who were there may have had a better view than the online feed.

The play before that a Tom all but gave the BU reciever a wedgie and didn't get a flag. I thought the call for interference was spot on.

Woof.

Go back and watch the film. The play before you are talking about was as well defended and clean as it gets.  Show me a screen shot that says otherwise.

No.  It was the dirtiest play ever.  Show me a screen shot that says otherwise.  I win by default. Nya Nya.

Man, Tommies can suck.

This coming from the guy who's first comment on the weekend was to remind me that a UST loss is a loss.  You and the rest of the SJ1 faithful piled on the UST loss before ever making a comment about how the SJ1 game went. I thought that was sad, and was simply pointing it out to Stanbob and the like.

You must be a monster of a man because there are very few shoulders that can prop up a chip that big.
