Johnnie_esq-

First off- I have to ask about the guys you know from The Sweet Season.  That was the year that I was at Olaf (when I met my wife)  I also played against many of those guys in high school (The Johnnie guys) and also played WITH one of them (Grady McGovern) in high school.   Bubba Sullivan, the Northfield coach, where I played, was selected to be the Linebacker coach for the out-state team at the MN HS All star game in the summer of 1996.  I went up with him, and stayed in the dorms, at the 'U' and ran the scout offense against the D.  So, in practice I was going up against Brandon Novak and got to know him quite well.  Then, my senior year, we beat South St. Paul in the section final game so we could go on to state (like we usually did!) That South St. Paul team had quite a few kids who played in the MIAC, and in fact quite a few that made pretty big impacts.  Labore, Manuel Spriegel and Steve Ryan from Olaf, as well as a couple others.  So, I too know/knew a few of the guys in the book.  Not to mention Jason Carlson, the guy Austin Murphy referred to from Olaf that was quite the character.  He was one of the nicest and smartest guys you could know, but it was hard to get to know him, as most people didn't give him a chance due to all of his piercings, and tattoos. There was also the bit about the hair coloring and all of the face paint during games.

Also, regarding Europe.  I'll send you an email as well, but how long will you be 'over here' for? I'll get more specific in the email.

Shouldn't it be a Tommie fan that gets to smite TDT for 200?  It would only seem right to me.

Oh, and I know that this isn't d3hockey.com, but, I have to say congratulations to the Olaf hockey program.  Goldy (Sean Goldsworthy) and his family are good friends of my wife and I, and they had a huge victory for their program in winning their first conference title since the late '30s.  And, this will be their first time ever in the national playoffs.  So, I tip my hat to them.

Guten Abend

Out of order, I'll show you out of order! You don't know what out of order is, Mr Task! I'd show you but I'm too old, I'm too tired, and I'm too f----n blind. If I were the man I was 5 years ago, I'd take a FLAMETHROWER to this place. Out of order, who the hell do you think you're talking to?

I am glad that I could be of service to the board.  I have to say it was a total group effort.

Well now that MIAC basketball is done, I am ready for the snow to be gone and get on the Golf Course and remember how frustratingly bad my  game is.
RB George Rogers, about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

Oh, Tom Linneman was also on that HS All-star team, and he had a great game, but was over shadowed by the arm of the quarterback from the metro team from HIll Murray, but I can't remember his name.  +5 Karma to anyone that knows his name (Once I make it to 200!)

Ok, you guys karma'd TDT to a pulp, and he seemed to withstand the abuse pretty well. I would like to propose a karma renewal for TDT all the way back to zero.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Oh, and though The Sweet Season is very pro Johnnie (every book has to have something wrong with it ;)) I still rank it in my top 5 books.  Now, it must be pointed out that I really do have A.D.D. which is the reason I, at 27, am just now going back to school to finish my degree and eligibility, and therefore, my learning problem has, in the past, kept me from reading books for pleasure.  So, I haven't ever read a lot of books.  But, with Murphy's writing style, and with the shorter chapters, and with a prior knowledge of the schools he is writing about, I found the book to be a very quick and easy read.

tmerton-  I am the lone rule breaker here, in that I am a current player.  However, I post as a d3 football fan, and not as an athlete.  Or, when I do post as an athlete, it is not as a biased athlete, but rather as a poster of the game from the on field perspective.  I say all that to talk about my current involvement with this conference.  What I have found most compelling of the Murphy book is that it does a great job of illustrating just exactly what d3 football and MIAC football is all about.  I have won 3 games thus far in my two years at Augsburg.  I definitely want to, and am working hard to try to win more.  But I know that the most important thing that I am taking from this experience is the relationships I am forging with my teammates.  When he describes the WWF nights at the different guys' apartments, or the collection of autographed pictures that Tommy Linneman has, those are the things you will forever remember from the MIAC (johnnie) experience.  So, though your son might not get the relationship stuff with the wife and family part, I still think it would be a great book for him to read because it DOES give a great look into how much fun one has in a small college like this.  Just my two cents.

So you're a friend of Mary Lyons! She stepped into a tough spot (being the first non-monastic prez of CSB) and did a great job- my wife worked with her a lot and really thought a lot of her.  I for one can't blame her for picking San Diego over St. Joseph, though...

Mary actually taught a class I took when I was a graduate student in Berkeley.  We also had our first children about the same time and were the only 2 with children in the school (Franciscans still don't have many children).  I knew she had later become president of the California Maritime Academy but had not seen her for about 20 years until we were together at a school related gathering in Berkeley last spring.  She said very nice things about CSB, though she did allow as it was colder than CA.  ;D  She was also saying very nice things about Mr. Harbaugh, the USD fb coach, though that was before his DUI arrest.  Anyway, I've been very happy for her success.  We're taking a look at USD as well, though I personally like to get the kids out of state for school to get a bigger (or at least different) view of the world.  I also like the D3 approach to fb better than 1AA, though #2 son will have to be the final arbiter of that.

Nope, that's a horrible I dea.

-1000 or bust!
Now accepting new patients. All bills must be paid in scotch shortly after any services rendered.  Sorry TDT, no problems below the waist.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

What's the rule you're breaking?

I figure if I can get my son to the description of the Bennie's question in Timo's sex class, the hook might go in at that point.

As I said in another post, I like the D3 experience (primarily the way the sport you play does not own you all year round) and the MIAC has a lot going for it in that regard.  We'll see how the visit goes.

Was the QB you mention Andy Persby of Hill-Murray.  Didn't he go on to pitch for the Gophs??

RB George Rogers, about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first."

M & G -  Yep, Persby.  That was it.  I thought that he was also picked up by the Twins, but while searching the net trying to find his name, the Twins did not have him listed as any sort of draft pick of theirs.  So, I guess I was wrong on that part.  He looked amazing in that game, with an unbelievably strong arm.

tmerton-  there is an unwritten rule that current players are not supposed to post.  However, I have made my case and have been given an exception as long as I continue to post in a neutral manner.

M&G- Now, if only I could grant you the Karma.  I'll make this my public IOU.

Man! Wake up at noon-15 and TDT's already been smited to -200!!

I guess the early bird really does get the worm...or to kick TDT in the balls anyway. I'll have to settle for -201...I'll get one of these big marks by the time he hits -1000 :)
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.
