Have you ever put down a horse?  I have and it quivers and shakes, looking for anything to grasp on to both physically and mentally.  That's what we have here.

;D I love it.

11- this is priceless experience for the youngster. Steve Johnson at Bethel has been doing this for the past 15+ years. He will land his recruit, primarily with QB & RB- throw them into the fire as Freshmen and ride them for 4 years.  Mike Johnson,Phil Porta, Logan Flahnery are example I can think of as RB & Kirchoff,Peterson (current) as well as the QB prior to Peterson- 4 yr starters and they are scarey good the last 2 years. Game experience is crucial to develop these young guys as you pointed out with Linfield's success.

Very true...BU has found much success with this setup, particularly in the positions that get noticed (QB & RB) Wetzell, Aakre, Johnson, Porta, Flannery, Marquardt, Klitzke...Peterson is close to that template, but his first year starting was last year, as a sophomore.

As a SJU fan, it seemed as if some of those guys played 5 or 6 seasons for Bethel.  They were good ones.

these parents better hope their kid never plays a game vs an MIAC team:

they'd probably be seeking federal protection!

I gotta say I'm really unimpressed by this soft gloves treatment people are asking for. Getting thrashed is an important lesson - dealing with adversity and disappointment. Also in order to bring the bottom up they are pulling the top down. That, too, is a bad lesson although maybe with fewer hut feelings. Maybe all the more nefarious because of its non-hurtful nature.

Oz,
You have been away from the USA for  too long. I agree with your statement, but we now live in an America that does not resemble the America we grew up in. This is an America where everyone gets a ribbon and Little League teams do not keep score and everyone bats every inning. Two weeks ago a Connecticut middle school banned the following on the playground at recess: " footballs, soccer balls, LaCrosse balls, baseballs, the game of tag, cartwheels" because theses activities are too dangerous.
As my old man would put it "the country is going to hell in a hand basket". We are experiencing the whoosification of America and I shutter to see what it looks like 30 years from now.

You'll be happy to see that the  Mountain Lake Area football team isn't too worried about handing out a a thrashing or two...or three or four for that matter.

According to maxpreps.com this was a matchup between #24 and #10,812 in the nation.  What did this parent expect to happen?

Back in the 70's my HS in NJ (Warren Hills) played a HS from a small town called Blairstown (whose biggest claim to fame is the original Friday the 13th was filmed at a camp near there and in and around the town).  The HS there was North Warren, we would start the Varsity and after one or two series they were pulled and the JV played them for the rest of the first half, we would then put the freshman team in against them.  We usually won 60+ to nothing as did every other school in the conference against them.  The think is week after week, year after year 15 to 20 kids would suit up and play their hearts out in every game, they never gave up and never stopped playing hard even when they were getting hammered.  A bunch of strong stubborn farm boys who loved football and wrestling.

Section105 is right, America has become wussified and it is only getting worse.  We no longer have that Chuck Wepner spirit in America, getting bloodied, knocked down and getting up to take some more.  If Wepner fought Ali now, Ali would get arrested for Bullying.

In addition to banning baseballs, footballs, etc, the school board tried to ban ownballs, but they tabled that for now....
105 - I hear ya. I thought the playground was a place where a kid was suppose to get a few bumps & bruises! :D

The funny part is that in this case, the team getting killed 91-0 is the bigger school.

That is weird...you don't see that too oftern in high school.

It's a relief to see a D3 poster correctly point out the only instance where school size matters in athletics (high school).  ::)   ;D

Exactly, I think it was a waste of resources and individuals time. That is why the issue of "Bullying" has its gray areas, because of accusations like this. He was playing a varsity sport, if she doesn't want to see things like this happen, maybe play an indivdual sport. But making an accusation like that about a sport that is dearest to my heart, had me infuriated.

1916 Cumberland vs. Georgia Tech football game

This game is the most lopsided in the history of college football, as Georgia Tech was victorious 222–0...Back then a team was measured not only by record but buy margin of victory. I believe that this attitude reflects what made our country great!  But I am a loan Republican in Chicago and we have been getting our A$$'s kicked on a regular occurrence in our local politics. Capitalism is very unpopular at the moment. I believe the current attitude that everybody should win and be rewarded sounds like our current society's attitude right now...Just like they would love to socialize  our sports just like our healthcare and or commerce! Everybody needs to get there a$$ kicked and learn from it to get better it what drives us to succeed, and God forbid that we get rewarded for it!  ;D
