Driver, the Fire Laker shirts are being sold by a few fellas down in Vincent. 31, in particular, seemed to have most of them.
Nice day, huh?

It seems to me we can't move the ball on the ground very well-what's the deal?

Best dlineman I ever played against was Mike Gindorff-concordia.  I was so sore the next day I could not get out of bed........

Gator, what era did you play in?  I'm not familiar with Gindorff.

On the running game:  I think what we're witnessing is John adapting to the strengths of his players.  With Kofoed's arm and several very talented recievers (RBs that can catch, too), SJU has gone to the pass as their base offense.  They seem to be using the run to set up the pass, but what it comes down to is the offense is oriented aroung passing the ball.  Also, they look to use passing in the run game (see the swings, screens, and shovels that have been thrown lately).  I'm not sure why the aren't running more.  Weber seems more than able to move the ball.  I'm guessing it has to do with the O-line being more pass-blocker type players.  Just my thoughts.  I try not to let it frustrate me too much ;D

A tradition unrivaled...
MIAC Champions: '32, '35, '36, '38, '53, '62, '63, '65, '71, '74, '75, '76, '77, '79, '82, '85, '89, '91, '93, '94, '95, '96, '98, '99, '01, '02, '03, '05, '06, '08, '09, '14, '18, '19, '21, '22, '24

Touchdown Tommy

Wow did you all just hear Aaron Neville sing God Bless America?  He won Grammys?  Are you kidding me?  That was the worst rendition of that song in history.  Fly in Ronan the Irish Tenor from Yankee Stadium!

I will be arriving for the Stiftungsfestivities around 9:00 a.m. My guests will be the Carver County Sheriff and his son. The Sheriff's presence should give our festivities more credibility than ever with the rent-a-cops that no adult beverages are being consumed.

JR:
Is this Sheriff familiar with a certain Carver County Investigator?  I wouldn't mind sharing a few tales with him and maybe sending a role of athletic tape home with him to exact some revenge!

Duffman-thanks for the analysis.  My era was late 80s-we were actually the offensive pilot of so many high flying offenses produced in the 90s.....

Willy Wonka

Breaking News: Sergeant Slaughter will NOT be in attendance Friday or Saturday in Collegeville. The Wingers had to go and pull off a 22-21 upset at Austin tonight to wreck my plans. I plan to pull a TDT and call for updates every 5 minutes however.

OAS - Don't disrespect Bechdol. Only Wilsey pops a pink collar.
I don't hate Duke. I just hate all their players, coaches and fans.

Mr.Shoes

Say, speaking of the festivities this weekend, who's planning on going up there from the Cities (and returning afterwards)? Duffman, I know you're going. My silly roommates don't "feel like" making the drive from Minneapolis. Wusses. Anyone feel like carpooling?
Nice day, huh?

I was cleaning up some old bookmarks and came across this. It's two years old, but just one of those pieces I thought I'd share for the Johnnie faithful.

Thanks for the article, anyone else notice it gives MUC(k) credit for Monkeystomping RPI and not Bridgewater?

QuoteSure the Purple Raiders won their semifinal 66-0 over RPI (who?), but St. John's has Gags.

RPI might get MonkeyStomped in the playoffs, but RPI NEVER gets TripleMonkeyStomped in the playoffs!!!

57,  were you asking me a question? :D

Duff,  I'm planning on arriving late Friday night to Collegeville.  I hope Fins has his RV there so I have a place to crash. :P

I'll get there as soon as possible on Saturday.

JR, rather than hope for the return of a clean grill for this week's game, I would suggest you hope for a properly assembled grill.  It was apparent on Saturday that the directions were not followed when your grill was put together but don't worry because Fins is all over it.  Just like stink on ****!!
Go Johnnies!!!

Re:using the run to set up the pass, here's what Gags said after the game on Sat.:
"We don't try to do anything specific, we just try and find a way to move the ball," said St. John's coach John Gagliardi, who spent all of Saturday's game on the sidelines while recording his 429th career victory. "I never understand what people mean when they say they tried to establish the run or the pass. We just try to find something that works."

Is it any wonder why John cares nothing for statistics? So what if the ground game is good for -17 yards, if the passing game is working, then use it. There are so many coaches who would panic when the playcalling gets lopsided and try to force things. I'm pretty sure John is utterly incapable of those feelings.

Also to echo Duffman's observation: John's invented/tested/discarded more offensive "systems" than most football minds have ever heard of. Whatever it takes to be successful.
Nice day, huh?
