I could of sworn I replied to several posts but my post count didn't go up, maybe I was mistaken. We will see if my post count goes up to 17 after this reply.

Where are the Gustie posters?  I'd much rather talk smack about the matchup this week.  And several of those guys are witty.

Besides the SJU 3rd string QB transfer, what else changed so much from last year?

Yep, it went up. Do post counts start over at some point. I can't believe I've been on this board for 6 or 7 years and only have 17 posts.

Yeah, I know it's confusing.  I wish your firsts post didn't count here, just like your first marriage to a Bethel girl shouldn't count. But that's life.

Judging from my post count, I doubt it! ;D

Though if you actually drop your account, maybe so.  Did you ever get frustrated and quit the account?

Wow-lumped with TDT and OZ-yikes. But I do experience at running a campaign -now we just need the right opponent.

You're being damned by association and I don't think you deserve it either.

I hope ROR has generous campaign contributors. I really enjoy frivolously spending lots of money.

No, not according to your count.  :)  I don't remember quitting the account - pretty sure I didn't. Maybe I'm confusing this board with some others. Oh well - getting my post count up.  ;)

From Thom Woodward '70, the creator of the SJU#1 logo:
Quote
Part of my legacy over the decades is the SJU#1 logo that I designed some time ago. It was never meant to proclaim "WE ARE NUMBER ONE." It's meant to be a reminder that we need to strive to be Number One, to work to be the best ... in athletics ... in the classroom ... as an alumni association ... as sons and fathers and as husbands ... as employers and employees. It's like when we sing the "Johnnie Fight Song": Show the world what SJU can do.

Let me think about this again. Smelled like a dead fish in the bottom of an old boat the first time I heard it....but will reconsider. It would be one thing if he was oblivious, but he acknowledges the obvious right off the bat.

I know this may seem strange with my alias, but I am a St. Olaf fan.  I know I have been confused for being a fan of several teams, but I am just a fan of the Oles.  The SJU 1 logo always reminded me of the old Big Ten logo that had the 11 in it.

At the beginning of the year I expected UST to coast through the conference.  I did not expect the other teams to just give it to them.  I cannot tell you specifics as to what has happened to keep the Tommies being the best in the MIAC this year because I just don't know.  For my own perspective though I expected Bethel to be good this year.  I am not sure if I knew enough about the other teams.  I definitely did not expect Olaf to be this bad though.

At the beginning of the year I didn't expect that post. Maybe a low bar but it's something.

This week's upcoming MIAC games

Has it been confirmed that Mr. Scott will be on the sidelines for the first half of the game this week against the Tommies? If it is, then this game will lose much of its luster. And St. Thomas should be able to salt this game away by the end of the first half. At the beginning of this season nobody would have thought that either of these teams would be in the pickle they are both in now.

Concordia travels down to Carleton and should be able to take care of business down in Northfield allowing them to rest up their starters a bit before they meet up with the Tommies the following week.

Bethel goes down Snelling Avenue to take on Hamline. I, for one, am interested to see how BU handles Hamline's RB Duncan. One would think at this point in the season that the Royals should be able to handle the Pipers.

St. John's travels down to Gustavus and if one looks at their respective records, it looks like the Johnnies should be able to walk out of St. Peter with a win. The Gusties have played the Tommies and the Royals tough for the first part of their games, and if Gustavus somehow ends up with a two score advantage on the Johnnies, it could mean a second conference loss for St. John's. I don't think that is something that Fasching and crew will allow to happen, if they can control it. I expect this game to be won by St. John's, but by less than two scores difference. This is definitely the game of the week in the MIAC, hands down.

"Past performance does not guarantee future gains." - What I realized as I was looking over the remaining games in the MIAC going into last week's games is this - that both Bethel and St. John's play Gustavus and Hamline, in that order, right before playing each other in the last game of the regular season. While the Johnnies are playing Hamline, Bethel has St. Olaf at home. How both teams perform against their recent common opponents will be telling as they come down to that last game of the regular season.

From the Concordia / Augsburg game stats:
H 1-10 V18   CONCORDIA-M'HEAD drive start at 06:54.
                   - Ayrton Scott ejected from the game

This one worries me...the Johnnies should be the favorite in this one.  With the GAC QB being a former Johnnie he could have something to prove.  Also the Gusties have a pretty darn good running back.  I'm also not a big fan of teams coming off of the bye week.

After a very brief scan of NCAA rules this morning I found that he could be waiting for a review by the conference that would determine a suspension. Nothing I found said a suspension was automatic.

Retired Old Rat

I too am very nervous about this Gustie game.  SJU has pretty much had their way with the Gusties these for the past 25 years or more.  This is what worries me:

Oct. 12, 1996 Away W, 48-16
Oct. 11, 1997 Home L, 16-24
Nov. 13, 1998 Metrodome W, 36-13

Gustavus is going to be really pumped for this game.  Last 25 games, Johnnies are 25-1.  Quarterback with something to prove.  Best shot at beating the Johnnies in a long, long time.

I hope the Gustavus students are excited about this game and will make a good showing.  Always a better atmosphere when the seats have fannies in them.

All adds up to what should be an exciting game.  Weather outlook is low 40's, some sun, no rain.  Hopefully no/low wind.
