Using "bracket logic" looks like the top 8 teams in the country in the NCAA committee eyes are thus:

1. Mount Union
2. Whitewater
3. Mary Hardin Baylor
4. Bethel
5. North Central
6. Hobart
7. Pacific Lutheran Linfield
8. Johns Hopkins

Which are the top 8 undefeated teams in D3's top 25: http://www.d3football.com/top25/2013/week11
As much as I would like it to be PLU, I think you met linfield

Just spoke to someone that was in Collegeville yesterday.  It seems that during the rain a number of fans huddled around the protection of the concession / pressbox area and were attempting to watch the game on the TV monitors.  The SJU admin didn't want them doing this so they shut off the televisions.  The message is clear...no webcast and no TV viewing at Clemens Stadium on rainy days.  The person I talked to said that nobody was really buying concessions anyway.   :(  The PR machine in Collegeville is really doing a stellar job.

I'm having a hard time believing this one.

I'll need a second, third, and maybe even a fourth source to corroborate before I go crazy over this.

Great season, Oz. Too bad you didn't submit picks for week 5--even a terrible week picking would've given you the title.

But that's just my observation from up here in the peanut gallery.
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

The Lord did not look kindly upon Clemens Stadium this year. The Johnnies were 3-2 at home this season and not one home game could qualify as a "picturesque" fall day.

OPPONENT -- WEATHER -- ATTENDANCE
UWEC     --        Rain     --       7,491
Concordia   --    Rain     --      10,077
Augsburg   --     Rain    --       8,886
Hamline --  Overcast/windy -- 4,024
Bethel   --         Rain     --       6,344

Totals:       Lots of rain   --   36,822 (7,364 per game average)

I'm totally amazed at the crowds you guys draw.  Looking at the stats though, to what do you attribute the "low" turnout vs Bethel?  I gather Hamline hasn't been competitive so that explains that game but it seems Bethel would have brought a crowd.  Does Bethel not "travel well" or do you think it was more a lack of home team crowd?

Just curious.

A virtual tie for first place, if you ask me.

The low Bethel number, according to reports and pics from the game, is due to low SJU turnout. They also apparently had a significant amount of their fans leave at the half. My sources tell me the 'home side' was only 1/3 full for the second half with basically no one in the end zone stands. Given everything I'd heard from Saturday, I was surprised to see the 'official' number at 6,300.

But yes, SJU sets the standard in game attendance at the d3 level.

Rumor has it that Bethel fans had loaded up on pork and beans the day before.  I reckon we were lucky to keep as many Johnnie fans there as we did with the usual wind direction this time of year.

1.)Not being in the chase for the MIAC title.
2.)Deer hunting
3.) Poor weather
All contributing factors, but the biggest being the loss to GAC two weeks prior. If SJU had had entered the Bethel game 8-1 with a glimmer of a chance to beat Bethel (SJU playing crisper up to that point) people would have come out in the rain. But with nothing on the line the casual fans were not interested in sitting in the rain.

It was miserable for those of us not sitting in the luxury boxes (sjusection105), and with the the way the game was unfolding, I am not surprised that a lot of folks emptied out at the half.  Had I brought my family, I certainly would have, too, but I stuck it out to the bitter end.  The boys on the field fought hard, and they deserved our hearty appreciation.  It took me a few hours to dry out and warm up afterwards despite being well-prepared!  The upside of the attendance was that parking was easier than normal as was the exit from campus.  ;D

I would pick watching the game in Collegeville with Saturday's weather over 60 degrees and sunny in Arden Hills any day of the week!

It turns out that the doc that will be delivering our baby is a Bethel grad.  Should I be worried???  :o
