No kidding, but considering Bethel's current financial state that's not likely to happen any time soon.  The school announced the gutting of its musical department this week, and it wouldn't surprise me if there's more to come.
You have to break down the big numbers into small numbers. GAC new stadium was a bit over $5 million, that was 2007 and in St. Peter. I would guess to do something similar in Arden Hills would be $6.5 million today. There needs to be a booster club fund drive headed up by former players of Steve Johnson. Sell a brick program and Gold, Silver & Bronze sponsor levels. 6,500 donations of $1,000 gets you there or any creative combination. Sell bricks for $50.00 and find key donors. Anyone of the alumni from the MBA program have deep pockets?
It's just like when a church building needs improvements, you get creative and find ways to meet the financial need. The obvious place to start is former players of Steve Johnson,he is the face of Bethel football and those guys from the past 25 years would walk on fire for him.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Looks like the Bethel game is at the Dome on Saturday...

Well Oz this leaves me conflicted,do I go to a playoff game inside the HHH Dome and not get frostbite (forecasted high 18* F on Sat.) or follow the in-game update in the privacy of my home & drink copious amounts of beer and still not get frostbite?
Either way,no frostbite but at home good beer, HHH Dome over priced distilled rhinoceros urine. :-\

Jeez, it's almost as if the quality of the facilities has an impact on your enjoyment at the game.  That's crazy thinking.

As to beer... 6am Sunday morning?  I'll be drinking too.

Yes, I'm one of those and I'm forever in Coach J's debt for what he (and Coach Plinske and Coach Petey) did to turn an 18 year old idiot into a 22 year old lesser idiot (but still an idiot even at 34) ;D.  If a collection is taken up to install turf and/or make other stadium improvements, will gladly put that check in the mail.

Here's a link to what I was talking about with the BU music department.  Music, especially the Festival of Christmas, was one of BU's major PR assets.  That and football are the best things going for it at the moment, and now the former will be disbanded.  Not happy days for the school as a whole.

Check this awesome video of the BU football team out.  It was done by a student at Bethel.  Pretty cool stuff.

That is sad news to hear about Bethel.  I know they have relatively small endowment especially with the size of the institution.  Augsburg has run in to similar issues.  Thus why you have the Weekend College.  It would be interesting to see how Bethel works to solve this problem.  Online programs may help, but I don't think they are the answer.  I don't know what alumni giving is there, but that can be a huge problem.  They are not alone in this issue.  Grambling had their financial issues in the spotlight a few weeks ago.

The Metrodome probably makes sense.  The weather could be a huge issue.  I would also imagine that light may be a bigger issue.  They may be worried about not having enough light for the game.  I don't think the stadium has lights so that would mean renting them.  The cost and logistics of lights could make the Metrodome a reasonable option.  I do think the weather outside could be an issue.  Heavy snow might create problem with the facilities not being able to be cleared.  I think if it was just one issue that the Royals would look at using one of the area high school fields.

@Chubbs

Festival of Christmas will be unaffected by the cuts. The reason music performance is being cut is because it has 5-7 students majoring in the field. It wasn't financially sustainable with such a small number of students for the resources it required.

The vast majority if Festival participants were not music majors. There is expected to be minimal impact on the celebration.

Chubbs

Hazz, good to hear that the Festival will go on.

However, quite incredible that the music program's enrollment numbers had shrunk to such a level.  Makes me wonder what the causes are of that, and whether or not the move to ax the program will alienate more alumni.

Apologies to everybody else for leading down this bunny trail...back to the foosball. ;D

I guess that answered my question about the Bethel sod holding up (assuming that's the issue).  Too bad for the players to not have a true home playoff game(s).

D O.C.

I remember Wildcat11 asking what the turf would be like for a 3rd game.

The NCAA has hoops Bethel perhaps was not prepared to jump through like controlling admissions, video, snack stand, security.

BTW, which MIAC stadium is best for rushing the field  in violation of NCAA rules after your team wins.

NO! No!~ Not my karma!

Pretty cool banner around campus today.  Go Royals!

OH NO.....more frickin' HANDc HOLDING!!!!   :o

What?!?  And I was steeling myself to cheer for BU this weekend. Now I find I'm cheering for Tommies-lite?  Ain't gonna happen.

I am sitting here at a complete loss.  I can't believe this, but I think Royals may suck now, too.  This is a genuine disgrace.

Sorry you feel that way. Just because they hold hands as a sign of unity doesn't deserve a comment that they suck and they are a disgrace. They should be judged by how they perform on the field which they have proven to be the best in the MIAC this year and the fact that you won't support your MIAC representative in the playoffs this year just because they hold hands is being a little childish IMO.
