Weak bracket?  You can't conclude that. You can conclude that the top was farther from the bottom in the two top brackets, however.  If it's a reasonable assumption that average is the same in each bracket then you could say the BU and MHB brackets have the better teams in week 2.  With the regional structure of the brackets, though, I don't think you can assume that.

So, basically, the only real conclusion you can draw is that in two brackets teams are going home depressed because they had their backsides handed to them an in the other brackets they are going home depressed because it was sooooo close but got away.

I was at the Dome Saturday as well & watching Bethel pretty much have their way the CSS reminded me of March Madness when someone like Louisville,Duke or Kansas gets "Anywhere State College of Art & Design" in First Round #1-#16 match up.
Is it 2015 where there will be 3 more Automatic Qualifier Conferences? Oh well, that just goes to prove you really have to take care of business & win your conference because the Pool C is shrinking.

Does anyone know if the Bethel Sr.'s are going to donate their hair to Locks of Love (a great charity for cancer survivors) when they cut their hair in the spring when they enter the real worrld and need a real haircut for job interviews?
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I watched a bit of Spinal Tap last night and realised that the actor playing the bassist Derek Smalls is the guy that has done Homer Simpson's voice all these years.  I love finding those little gems. One of my favorite movies for that sort if thing is The Warriors. The number of biggish actors that played Roller Skating Thug #3 or some such is surprising and conversely there is only two quasi-important characters in that movie that you'll actually recognise for their post Warriors career.

Yes, a number of them are. They started it after Mathis Bros' dad got cancer.

Duke got all they wanted from Vermont tonight.  Georgia Southern also managed to ignore the guaranteed win Florida fans were expecting yesterday.

Everybody in the MIAC gets whipped if they play Bethel yesterday.

Yes, Locks of Love is the plan.  Started 3 -4 years ago with a Defensive End that grew and donated his hair.

Oz....Michael McKean was my neighbor in the 70s and Harry Shearer spent days over there. The one liners and constant comment by them was hilarious and grating after awhile. They were just breaking up The Credibilty Gap....

I dont' think that's really true.  They were playing at a high level on saturday, sure, but outside of the fact that they outplayed CSS, they just had better athletes at every position.  A UST or SJU or CORD would at least have guys that can keep up with them physically.  Not the case on Saturday.

I was in attendance at the dome, and there wasn't a spot on the field where BU didn't have a bigger, faster player.

I'm with SJU105 on this in that I think it's a major downer that there will continue to be fewer pool c spots in the future, which will keep good teams at home in order to give completely overmatched teams like CSS the "opportunity" to get throttled in the first round.

If you listened to Keith and Pat's podcast after selection sunday, he offered some ideas up in regard to not necessarily having an AQ for every conference, and how that could possibly work.  I'd like to see something like that implemented...while I understand that no selection process will be without flaw, there are better solutions than having only a few bids for teams that aren't conference champions.

I don't dispute the facts about being able to physically compete, but Bethel monkey-stomped Concordia and St. John's.  I don't need to see those matchups again this year.  This isn't Basketball where an at-large team has a good chance of making it to the final four.  The UMAC plays so few power conference opponents with their new 9-game schedule.  I can't see the conference improving without the opportunity to play a better team in the playoffs.  I don't like the fact that St. John Fisher was given a bid and St. Thomas not, but I definitely do like how the Johnnies were effectively able to knock the Tommies out of the playoffs.  The great thing about college football that separates it from the pros is the meaningful regular season.  No exhibition games, the first game on the schedule in September matters.

Don't want to state the obvious,"the best 32 teams didn't get in!" but on the flip side you have to win your division to control your destiny. The hard part is trying to explain to my buddies who are just starting to pay attention to D3 football, because I was forcing them to watch the games with me at my house by bribing them with food and drink!  The biggest issue they have is why have the top 25 rankings...? Why not use them to get the better team in the playoffs in conjunction with the current system.  Some of them believe that the top 25 should be automatic seeds in the playoffs...I tried to explain how it works but they said just make it like the FBS but with playoffs, I kinda lean that way also, but since this is my first year in the mix I am sure somebody can help me explain why this is a bad idea.  Because I think the Tommies were a better team then some of the others than got in, But can't really Bitch to much since we didn't win the division!  :o

I agree with this, and also like that aspect, but I don't like the direction we're heading in with more AQ's being added in the near future.  Pretty soon we'll be saying, sorry MIAC / WIAC / (insert tough conference), we know you play in a very good conference, and face multiple tough teams every year within conference, but if you lose one game, you're basically out of the playoffs.  We have to save spots for the UMAC and other Sisters of the Poor conferences so that they can have the playoff experience of losing by 50 points, because it's only fair that they get their spot, regardless of how weak they are on a national scale.

I know recent history have shown that these conferences are not top notch, but allowing each conference represenative a chance, allows that Cinderella team to have a chance at glory. Without the AQ, we mind as well do what DI BCS does, which is all subjective, especially since there are few OOC games across various regions. I would love to have play-in games or an extra week, but funds are tight in Indianapolis.

ChiTommie - just tell them it's a lot like the NCAA Basketball Tournament with half the teams. I'm sure even your mouth breathing ;D Chicago buddies can relate to that.

Six or seven of the MIAC teams could beat St. Scholastica.  IMO the addition of conferences to D3 has watered down the playoffs a bit.
Maybe the MIAC and UMAC should merge to form a D3 super-conference.  Sixteen teams with two divisions of eight.  Each team would play seven divisional games and three crossover games.
Two divisional champs would be crowned and would be given an automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs...thereby assuring that the UMAC teams never gets a team in the playoffs again.
We could have a John Gagliardi "Legends" division and a John Ireland "Leaders" division.    ;D
