I'm all for old school outdoor football but today is bordering on being dangerous for the players. Currently -24 with wind chill factor and not expected to get a whole lot warmer by game time. Hope the players from both teams can stay warm enough and not get any frost bite. With that said - GO ROYALS!!!!!!

It's shaping up to be a lot like a game UMD had 2 or 3 years ago in the playoffs. I think it was the semis maybe...but bitterly cold and brutal wind chill.

Game ON!!
I remember watching part of the game (I think it was NW Mo St) as I knew coach/player on both teams. Making matters worse, I believe it was a late afternoon or night game!

Yep, it was NW Missouri St. And yes, I think you're right, it was a night game. I just remember thinking that was the coldest football game I'd ever seen.
St. Cloud State is playing NW Missouri St. at noon today in the D2 quarters, but NW Missouri St gets to host in the tropical 16 degree temps in Missouri.

I would be at the game if I lived in the MN area....
However, I live near Tacoma and have made the trip across MT/ND too many times in the winter.

12 min to game time...go Royals~!

Tough game today for Bethel.

Hats off to the Royals for having a great season.

I hope to be in Collegeville next year when Bethel comes to the Natural Bowl on November 8 (the 11-year anniversary of the 409 game).

Congrats to the Cardinals on their victory today and good luck next week against MU.

Overall stats (other than the score and turnovers) were surprisingly quite even. Obviously the 5 BU turnovers were the biggest difference in the game. You hate to have to play such an important game without your starting qb and you will always wonder if it would have been a different outcome if Peterson hadn't got hurt, especially since 4 of the 5 turnovers were attributed to Keefe (2 fumbles and 2 interceptions). But congrats anyway to Bethel for an outstanding year!

Well, if you'd told me going in we'd put up almost 400 yds of offense, rush for over 200 and essentially equal North Central in total yards, I'd have said I really like our chances.

On the flip side, if you'd have told me we'd have 5 TO's, I'd have said we'll be in serious trouble. You won't win games at this point in the season when you don't take care of the ball. What hurts most is that this team has been so good in that area most of the year.

Hat's of North Central, they made plays and as importantly, they limited their mistakes. Solid team, very good QB, great play calling on offense, nice RB. Good luck next week against the machine. With some nice weather, you should be able to put up some points (considering how much Mount gave up through the air today). Wish we could have seen Peterson and Stanzek going back and forth, but it wasn't meant to be :(

To the Bethel Seniors - major tip of the cap! Tough to lose a game in this manner and tough to do it without Peterson. But I loved the way they kept fighting. There was a lot of talent in this class. Thanks for carrying on the tradition!

And even though it wasn't Keefe's day, glad he was there to answer the bell last week and this week. Thanks for sticking it out and keeping your head in the game.

Congratulations to Bethel on a very fine season!

A shame you didn't have your regular quarterback, and a shame for both teams having to deal with the weather and field conditions.  A whole lot of slippin' and slidin' out there today! :P

Hats off to North Central who played a good game today against a Bethel squad not quite up to snuff. Others have already mentioned the 5 turnovers and not having our starting QB. Two more things that I noticed was that Marquardt wasn't 100 % and uncharacteristically the Royals allowed for a couple of long run backs on kick-offs/punts. Field position really put the D in a bind.

Good luck to the Cardinals as they now face a Mount Union squad that really struggled to put away Wesley after putting up 31 on them in the first quarter of play. I think Mount is the most vulnerable team left of the four still standing. They may be favored in next weeks game but they will have their hands full with this NCC squad.

Next week we have #1 vs. #4 and #3 vs. #5 - it's been a great year for D3 Football play-offs this year.

Hey, it's been 63 years since the 'Snow Bowl' (UM 9, OSU 3, in arguably the weirdest game ever played.  FORTY FIVE punts, many on first down, once the coaches figured out that defenses were much more likely to score than offenses).  I'm still celebrating the game! ;D

And I wasn't even yet a Michigan fan, being a 2-year-old in Illinois. :P

Having followed Bethel Football for 20 years I need to say this was the best all-around team we have put on the field. Congratulations to Coach J and the team on a great season and a great career for these Seniors! You have achieved much for which you can be very proud. Looking forward to next season and another run through the playoffs. :)

I agree whole heartedly! Coach Johnson has become synonymous with Bethel football. (I last laced up for BU in the fall of 1981 and have been following them ever since.)
