Boys of Fall

56321: My son keeps getting the emails and letters fron St. Olaf, Gustavus, and others as well, but what I really noticed from SJU last fall was a much better presence at the high school games themselves, have you seen that as well?

a MOST interesting development in the WIAC.....will Norbert's try to join the WIAC?  I honestly dont see CSS getting in the MIAC unless Mac (and maybe 2 others that have been rumored leaving in the recent past ) leave the fold. But I dont see anyone leaving the MIAC, but maybe Im delusional on that  :)

I hope you like your bacon cold, bw.  A bit of private competition would be good for the public school behemoth that is the WAIC.

I'm not from MN, but when I was in high school, I recall a steady stream of form letters from certain schools (for some reason, I vividly remember getting a letter seemingly every week from Middlebury College) without ever hearing personally from the coaching staff.  I assume that the schools with the steady stream of form letters were sending out tons of those just to cast the widest net possible, then establishing a greater level of contact with those who indicated some level of interest (i.e. emailed the coaching staff or called the football office to inquire in response to the form letter).  Just a different approach - cast a wide net with letters and see who responds vs. the more targeted, more personalized approach.  Both have their uses in small-college recruiting.
I was small but made up for it by being slow...

We would welcome St Norbert into the WIAC.  There was a time long ago when it was discussed.  The problem is that they want no part of it.  The last time WHITEWATER had a football arrangement with them they canceled it.

My son keeps getting letters and emails from St. Olaf to play football there-what the hell is SJU doing? Need to look outside central Minnesota!
Also, reading Sandford's new book and about 35% of the way through (on Kindle) the main character asks his daughter if she would like to go to UST and she says "fu** a bunch of Tommie's." Gotta love Sandford!
They probably do not see the Fox Valley Conference as being a target rich environment (read: having much ROI) for potential recruits. I can confirm that they have had an increased presence at both ESCC & CCL schools, so they are outside central Sota. If your kid wants some love from the J's, have his coach reach out to them or you guys can-nothing wrong with being proactive.

On a side note...that LA to UST pipeline (that allegedly doesn't exist) produced a few more quality recruits! Cheers to your alma mater. As a matter of fact, I recently had a conversation with the father of another former LA player regarding how impressed they were with Glenn, his assistants, the UST F.A.M.I.L.Y., the facilities and what they've done with the program. He said they had a chance to stop and visit after their visit to MN. State. Unfortunately, his son accepted an appointment to play ball at the Air Force Academy and another one of his LA teammates accepted the MN State scholarship. Oh well, I guess they can't land them all, right?!

Why would they want to give up an easy automatic bid?  ;D

Dog attacks boy. Boy's cat kicks dog's butt.

One of my neighbor's cats tries to mess with my dog.  My dog is 150 lbs of cat hating Great Dane.  I sometimes wonder how brave the cat would be if the fence were removed.  ;)
