Then is it fair to say that John Carroll (and the strength of the OAC) was a little exposed last season in the playoffs by SJF? As well as the year before that when Heidelberg lost in the first round to Wittenberg. Both of which were first-round home games for the OAC.

I would agree, it seems that there are always conferences that pick up from year to year.  Really, IMO - the WIAC is top to bottom the deepest conference in the country year after year, and i don't expect this to be any different this year. These others seem to fluctuate just depending on the year- MIAC, OAC, IIAC, NJAC, E8, CCIW, NCAC, NWC

I mean really, when's the last time anyone from the OAC was any good?

Outside Mount....It's tough to make an argument for anyone

2006 Capital. 11-2, 8-1. Lost to Mount both times. Beat Witt and NCC handily in the playoffs before losing by 3 at National Champion Mount. Mount proceeded to roll both SJF and UWW on their way to the Walnut and Bronze. That 3 point home win was the only game all season a team finished within 12 pts of Mount. So yeah, it's been 7 years since the OAC runner-up made any appreciable noise.

Hello Johnnie fans.

Was reading Frank's chat in the SC Times yesterday, and there was talk about other running backs in addition to Sura.  Mention was made of one Brice Johnston, a freshman from New Orleans.  While I was hoping for some size to replace Certeza, take a look at this highlight "reel" if you'd like to get jazzed up for Sept. 6.  I have no idea of the quality of competition, but this guy's got some moves.

Now, I'm still waiting for some 265-275 lb. D-lineman to show up, I know most of you subscribe to the "smaller/quicker" theory, but otherwise, I'm beginning to feel pretty good about this edition of the Red and White.

What happened to Certeza? I thought he was an underclassman?

Looking forward to another great season of MIAC football. Just read through most of D3's Kickoff web pages and taking a gander at the MIAC website. If, and it's a big if, you believe what Pat and Keith have predicted for the MIAC, after 6 weeks of play the conference will have Gustavus on top of the heap with 6 wins. Then they face the Johnnies, the Royals, the Tommies and the Cobbers, in that order to finish at 6 and 4.

It's gonna be fun to see how the season unwinds.

Left school last spring...I heard some unsubstantiated rumors of academic issues.

I found that Hudl reel last spring as well.  Heard he carried a 3.8 GPA into Collegeville.  Hudl profile shows 5'7" 172 lbs and claimed to be a 4.5 in the 40.
That's pretty small even for D3.

I was hoping for some size to replace Certeza,

There are a couple of "bigger" Freshmen RB's,so there is hope. Might have to wait for things to shake out in a JV game on Sept. 14 in real game action to get noticed. Also, Soph. Zack Sundly will get a shot (unless something drastic happens) so wait to see what he can do. It's open audition time, so the UWRF game will be "fluid" if someone makes a couple mistakes he could be a spectator. This happens all the time, guys get a chance & make the most of it. See the replay of the UST game last year to see what Sura & Matt Workman (QB turned into a DE) did with their  opportunities . I'm pumped up to see who will step up  8-)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I believe what was stated earlier was that SJU did not offer the academic program he's chosen to pursue.

Yeah, now that you say it I remember that as situation too, ROR.  From what I remember, he went back to CA so I speculate that maybe homesickness could have played a part.  Would have with me, anyway.

I had the opportunity to meet Miss Minnesota Savannah Cole at the Stiftungsfest celebration last Sunday. Hopefully we can get her up to a Johnnie game this fall and the Stiftungsfestivities.
