Bethel D looked pretty good in the first half.

Offense looked out of sync. Oline especially struggled. Wartburg got a lot of penetration on the interior and we aren't getting much push.

Fortunate to be up 7-3 at the half. D bailed us out twice.

Wartburg starts with the ball. Hopefully we knock the rust off to start the second half.

Nail biter at Concordia Wi. The qb and wr for Concordia are lethal. WR is 6' 5" and a nice athlete. Looks like the Bethel receiver Hallstrom.

Dang, I just realised the Johnnie game, being a night game, starts at 9am here.  And it conflicts with #3's grand final basketball game.  I'll be checking in at the basketball halftime to see the score.  Go Johnnies!

This is #3's first championship game.  She's very excited.

EDIT:  Ooh.  Checking scores.  Maybe Wartburg is the real deal.

Ayrton Scott had 504 yds of total offense today and 7 td's :o  Concordia WI has a great passing combo of QB Damaschke and WR Wenzleburger. Those two would do well in the MIAC.

Auggie defense has a few holes to fill and they looked better today after adjusting. CU started out with the same pass plays that Wartburg had success with last week and they adjusted.  A work in progress.

Go Oz's #3!!

My Devils have Wartburg next week in Waverly. Need to play better than today where we squeaked out a win v. Loras.

Speaking of #3, that appears to be the QB we are on this season due to injury.  :P

Looking the stats of the Wartburg/bethel game, and it's mind boggling how bethel lost. +4 On Tournovers and lose by 17   ???

Go JOHNNIES!  What a great win. A hard nose effort. There could be no better post for #5000.

It's been a great ride to 5k with the Johnnies and their supporters on the D3 boards. There are guys we haven't seen for ages, like TC or KR, the long timers like 57 or Duffman, the supporter from afar like zip, tmerton and sfury, and the evangelical, reborn fans like 105.  And there are the many other Johnnies and MIAC supporters who make this place enjoyable, not to mention our good friends from Wiscy, particularly BDB. Speaking of Wiscy friends, if anyone sees janesvilleflash please hello from the boards. His humour is missed.

So let me thank you all for helping make this a fun place to check during the day. And let me also hope that today's good showing by the Johnnies is a premonition of the whole season. Go Johnnies!

(And #3 and her team won the championship. They are the McKinnon Basketball Association Under 10's Wednesday night league champions. There is winning all around with Johnnies and their associates.)

Did they say on the SJU broadcast when Voshell got hurt? I remember on the video he came off favoring his arm after like a 1-yard run that he wasn't even involved in. So not sure if he hurt it blocking or maybe a previous play and then only ran off after the run. Bad luck either way, horrible luck for his career.

Through 2 games the Johnnies are suddenly Bethel circa 2006.

And when the Johnnies do have to open it up eventually, I think they'll be all right. They've had some nice passing plays the limited times they've had to use it. Bungum is still tough, the tight end made some plays, Clark, etc.

I remember about 3 1/2 years ago when a member of the SJU staff (non-football) was simply giddy as he told me that Sam Sura was registering to attend SJU. My first reaction was, well that's nice another RB who will be buried in the depth chart. Sura's played at South St. Paul, a decent team but nothing that makes headlines week after week. Remember,we are not talking about Eden Prairie,Wayzata,Cretin Durham Hall not even a Mankato West. Sura has shown why all the excitement. He never looks too flashy,he moves like he isn't putting forth effort and always seems to make positive yardage. Hopefully he remains healthy & continues his positive running ways for the Johnnies!
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I was excited when Sura decided to attend SJU.  Watched him play at SSP.  He took a small school, usually mid-pack competitive team, in a good conference and made them very good.  It is really, really nice to see the staff have faith in him and for him to excel.  Keep on truck'n Mr. Sura!
