I also seem to remember John entering the field well behind his players, not amongst them in the front.

...and slinking off of the field immediately post-game.

Like that one time he beat UST on our home turf in 2003 and slinked off the field, I mean, over to the 50 yard line holding a banner that said he had tied Eddie Robinson's record for career victories, with the national press all taking pictures.

Yeah, I guarantee that was not his idea.

I've obviously never met Gags, and don't know anything about him beyond what I've read.

Wouldn't it be possible that he really didn't like that sort of attention, but also didn't want to be an A-hole and turn down every interview / recognition that came his way?

None of us truly know, but it definitely seems reasonable to me that he didn't like being in the spotlight in that manner, but also didn't want the reputation / legacy of being known as the cranky a$$ who doesn't have time for anybody or views himself as being too important to give anyone an interview.

My son got a letter from St. Olaf, with two to tickets to the STO v UST game. I gotta say they really do a good job of trying to get high school players.

They might be doing a good job of trying.  Clearly that good job is not resulting in talented players landing in Northfield.

That may be due to where they are recruiting. The Fox Valley conference is not exactly a hot bed of talent! Can't imagine that many kids from those schools end up in the MIAC-I would certainly think their time, efforts, recruiting $$$ could be better spent. Better them than the Toms. Roll Tommies, Roll!

Well, let's hope our ability to make halftime adjustments won't be affected by an ambulance blocking the locker room entrance because they're loading up some idiot girl that has alcohol poisoning again.

I'd say there is a good chance of that happening...again.

Speaking of happening again - Will there be a 15 minute on-field presentation of the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year award at halftime? I don't remember hearing who won the 2013 award. Based on the slobbing that happened last year I assume St Glenn was honored once again.

It's possible it wasn't the drunk blocking the locker room that resulted in the lack of halftime adjustments. I would wager it was the fact the head coach was out on the field and not in the locker room that was the problem.

While I didn't exactly agree with the timing of that presentation, my guess is the OC and DC probably do the majority of the tinkering during halftime.

Also, an SJU fan upset about having to witness the opposing team's coach get perpetually patted on the back is hilarious.

I have no problem with a guy being honored for winning what I think is a prestigious award.  What I do find humorous is that the prior year's awards are re-presented along with the current one.  And that it it is done twice.  First at an SJU/UST basketball game and then again at the SJU/UST football game.

Maybe at the game next year in Collegeville SJU should re-present the four national championship trophies.  Not really SJU's style, however I'm sure the all the Tommies would appreciate the kind gesture of showing them what football national championship trophy looks like.

John no doubt received his fair share of attention - the majority of which came from outside organizations, like ESPN, Sports Illustrated, etc. However, I don't recall he or SJU acknowledging said recognition in the middle of a game. I could be wrong but the timing was clearly picked to try and embarrass SJU, in front of a huge crowd. And if what ROR said is true, that he was already honored at a previous event, it becomes even more rippable.

I also seem to remember John entering the field well behind his players, not amongst them in the front. Who knows, maybe John led them out during his early days but I'm assuming not.

"timing was clearly picked to try and embarrass SJU"-You're right, Rube-you ARE wrong. Perfect example of Johnnie arrogance here-it's all about us!

Rube, his award presentation and the timing of it has NOTHING to do with the Johns other than their fans being present. I see nothing wrong with the timing-big crowd + rivalry game = perfect timing.

As for who leads the team on the field, Glenn is the unequivocal leader of our team/program. Therefore, there is NOTHING wrong with his standing with his designated players to lead the rest of the team on the field. Did you happen to see the Cornhuskers honor their '94 team this past Saturday? Guess who was upfront leading them onto the field? Yep-Tom Osborne with some of the other coaches...can you believe it? He would actually act contrarily to the almighty Gagliardi? Blasphemy!

Roll Tommies, Roll!

Boys of Fall

Let's face it, they're two good coaches, both Gagliardi and ...............  wait, I really can't mention them in the same sentence.

I could be wrong but that was kind of a milestone accomplishment.

The gouge  is on....again...jacking prices a whole $2 on adults and $1 on kids.  This must be one of those premium games.  ;)
The increase will of course be justified by the need for increased security, bleachers etc...

• Tickets for this year's game cost $10 for adults and $5 for students (kids six-and-under will be admitted free). St. Thomas faculty, staff and current students are admitted free will a current school ID. But purchasing tickets in advance does not guarantee a seat and fans are advised to arrive early.

The price gauging complaint again?

Faunch, if $2 is really worth the time it took to write this, I'll cover you.

It's not so much the $2 as the principle behind it.

"We're going to charge you $10, and you're likely going to have to stand 20-deep around the field so that you can't see squat.  Oh yeah, and you can tailgate, but you'll have to wait in line to get into the designated area, and you can't use a charcoal grill or imbibe in any delicious pre-game beers."

Agree w/ Duff...and if SJU ever does this when the Tommies come to Collegeville I will call foul on that as well.
I'll be at a 10U state fall softball tournament anyway.

So, what is it Tommies?  Are Gags and Caruso cut from the same cloth or not. Maybe you should argue amongst yourselves first before taking on the rest of the world.

No need for the Johnnies to huddle, of course.  Somehow we're always consistent when discussing Gagliardi. Maybe there's a point in there.

No need to argue amongst ourselves-there's no debate-we'll take Caruso over JG seven days a week and twice on Sunday. Let there be NO confusion.

There's nothing wrong with Caruso leading the team onto the field in full-sprint. Leader into battle, leader of men, hoo-rah, etc. It's what every other coach does. There was a story about years ago Gagliardi's grandkids asking why he didn't run out like Paterno did and how they liked that he did that for Penn State, and John said he'd rather have the attention on the players.

So yeah, every coach does do it, just like Caruso. Nothing wrong with it. What SJU always liked was that it had a coach who wasn't like everyone else.*

*Line added because I personally did like that while also trying to offer some SJU insufferability the Toms can ridicule.
