And duffman was giving me good recommendations in some PMs. Never doubt: Johnnies are stand up guys!

Duff came through! :P

Lift Bridge Brewing- Stillwater.

Also a Johnnie brewery, I believe (at least it was at the beginning).  I must say that their Farm Girl Saison is one of the most detestable beers I have ever had the misfortune of drinking.  It reminded me of licking stale beer off the floor of the Metrodome.  Not my thing at all.  I think their only other offering that I ever dared try was the Crosscut Pale Ale, which was alright.

Hello Gentleman,
Hope you are all well.  I am hoping someone can give me a little insight into if Macalester allows tailgating and what the facilities are like if they do.
I would appreciate any info you can give me.  Thanks.  :)
And you're going to a Mac game why?

If you know who 413 is, check the coaching staff of Mac's opponent. :)
Thanks for all the recommendations, Guys!   I appreciate it.  11:00 is not too early, and in fact, it is about 2 hours too late, IMHO.  On game day, I make it a goal to have my first bloody mary by 9:00 AM.  ;D  Yes, as Pat has eluded to, with Mac's move into the MWC, and my relationship to a certain, washed up ex-Warhawk, who is the linebacker coach for a Mac opponent in a few weeks, I find that I have another reason to return to Minnesota besides visiting my cabin in G.R.  Just wish we could host a tailgate for all my Minnesota friends and family who live there. But, the sports bar will have to do. We will pick one from your recommendations.   Thanks again.   Hope you are all well.   :)

Just pull up in front of The Nook, pour a few bloodies, and wait for them to open.  ;)

Sorry, but you'll be sorely disappointed in the football atmosphere at Mac unless things have changed a lot since 2001, which I can't imagine they have.

Duff, haven't you ever heard of the BBC? The Baptist Brewing Company.... ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

SJUrube

Andy Rennecke - who most recently covered SCSU for the SCTimes will be replacing Frank on the SJU beat following the football season. I've enjoyed Frank and his handling of us SJU supporters - in particular the crazy ones.

I'm very intrigued by the Gusties and look forward to the game this weekend. Hendricks was a very good HS QB and he's had a very good season thus far. I was thrilled when SJU got him a few years back. Hoping he'll do his part to deliver and SJU victory this Sat.

I'll be watching the game up north with a number of in-laws - many of whom are GAC grads. Making an SJU victory would be even sweeter.

Thanks, 105. I will gladly use and keep your red cup.

Duff, I'm going to bring some amber nectar to share. Can you make me a good Minnesota recommendation?

Since Duff is neglecting his responsibilities - here are a few of my favorite local breweries:

Surly (in particular, Furious) - delicious IPA, but pretty strong as they go, so you'll have to meter your consumption if you want to remember the game.

Indeed - variety of good beers...haven't had one that I didn't like yet.

Fulton - Sweet Child of Vine and Lonely Blonde - another bonus for you is that it is run by SJU guys.

Lift Bridge Brewing- Stillwater.

Steel Toe - St. Louis Park

Lucid - Minnetonka.

There are enough local breweries that most liquor stores have a section for MN beers now...and I'm sure they'll be happy to recomend their favorites as well. (or is it favourites?)

You might want to pick up a handcrafted 6 pack caddy...made in the woodshop at SJU.

A recommendation for a good sports bar in the area that opens early enough then?

I'd recommend The Nook, if 11 a.m is early enough for you.

The Blue Door Pub (St. Paul version) is really good and close by as well. They've got great burgers & really good cheese curds if you're into that. And if you're not, I don't want to be your friend anymore  ;) :)

Groveland Tap could also be added to this list.  Probably not equal to The Nook or Blue Door as far as Gastro-pub food goes but they do have a good selection of beer.  It's also closer to MAC than the others.

I'll make another addition - St Clair Broiler - again, not an equal to Blue Door or The Nook, but solid food, and it is directly across the street from the football field, so if you were interested in walking, it would be a good fit.

Why so late?

Grad school at a B1G institution was an eye-opener when it came to tailgating.

11:00 am kickoff meant the first beverage was in the range of 7am.

But then 2:30 pm and 7pm kickoffs also meant first beverages around 7am.

Hey, at least we were consistent....

I'll put in a plug for the St. Clair Broiler.
We would always walk over there to grab a bite during the Macalester Twilight meet.
