I'll make another addition - St Clair Broiler - again, not an equal to Blue Door or The Nook, but solid food, [and] it is directly across the street from the football field, so if you were interested in walking, it would be a good fit.

I'll put in a plug for the St. Clair Broiler.
We would always walk over there to grab a bite during the Macalester Twilight meet.
I love the location.  We may have a crew and after a few cocktails, walking to the stadium way more attractive.  Thanks again!   :-*

A recommendation for a good sports bar in the area that opens early enough then?

I'd recommend The Nook, if 11 a.m is early enough for you.

The Blue Door Pub (St. Paul version) is really good and close by as well. They've got great burgers & really good cheese curds if you're into that. And if you're not, I don't want to be your friend anymore  ;) :)

Groveland Tap could also be added to this list.  Probably not equal to The Nook or Blue Door as far as Gastro-pub food goes but they do have a good selection of beer.  It's also closer to MAC than the others.

Keep in mind the broiler is more of diner...think Seinfeld.  It's not a bar...they have a few beer selections and some wine but not really a pre game spot IMO.
There's also O'Gara's up on Snelling a wee bit...also a B-Dub's if your into that commercialized atmosphere sh_t.

Lift Bridge Brewing- Stillwater.

Also a Johnnie brewery, I believe (at least it was at the beginning).  I must say that their Farm Girl Saison is one of the most detestable beers I have ever had the misfortune of drinking.  It reminded me of licking stale beer off the floor of the Metrodome.  Not my thing at all.  I think their only other offering that I ever dared try was the Crosscut Pale Ale, which was alright.

Good to know. Just  finished one here in Terminal 2 @ MSP. Nice brew!

Fulton is the beer of the month at Westside Liquor.  6.95 for a 6 pack of bottles.  My wife said I bought an excessive amount.

Of course, agree with her. Let her know that you had (yet again another) lapse in judgment. Then proceed to your man cave to enjoy your beer in peace & quiet.  8-)

Whenever she comes home from shopping, she informs me how much money she saved because everything she bought was on sale.  I guess beer doesn't work the same way.

That's because you can't actually own beer, you can only rent it.

True BDB, but then again, how many pairs of black shoes does a woman need? In the case of my wife, the answer, evidently is 37..... ???

Fixed it for ya.

I'll be there in St. Peter tomorrow cheering for both of them to be wrong.

GO JOHNNIES!
Sing us a song, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feelin' alright.

I also want to wish Frank Rajkowski all the best in his next venture at the SC Times. There have been a few times where I've been a little hard on Frank on this board. Most of those occurring during those frustrating years at SJU between 2010 and 2012.

Safe travels, Frank!

Also, here is an early welcome to Andy Rennecke to the world of Johnnie Football!

Not surprising-Pat is not an SJU fan. Probably because of TDT.

I agree, 37 pairs of black shoes is excessive! Now 37 purses sounds about right! 8-)
