I was talking to some BU staff at the Wartburg game and commented that I thought it was odd that they had a bye the very first week and their response was that Coach J thought a bye week mid season was more disruptive to their regular weekly routine and would rather not have a bye week then - interesting point of view.
I've always thought the mid-season bye was disruptive, too, although it can be nice to have an extra week to heal up some nagging injuries.

A tradition unrivaled...

Good golly, St Cloud had had as much snow last night as the Halloween blizzard of '91. That was a hell of a storm. I can't believe I was there just two weeks ago in t-shirt weather.

I hope you all have seat heaters in your cars.

That is true, but only comparing it to the first day/night of the 1991 blizzard. The blizzard lasted for about 4 days and we ended up with 28.4 inches of snow back then. Sure glad we didn't get that much this time. :)

OzJohnnie

Yeah, I had always thought we got three feet of snow in that storm.  The article I read didn't mention that so I thought I may have mis-remembered.  Maybe it was trying to up the drama of this latest flurry. As if a foot needs extra drama.

Anybody have a guess as to what the West Region Rankings will look like this week and what pool c bids may come out of the west?

My thoughts are that no West teams this year are rewarded with a Pool C bid to the NCAA Playoffs unless UW-Platteville wins this weekend.

November 5th, 2014 -                           This Week

1 UW-Whitewater 7-0 8-0                     1.UW-Whitewater
2 Wartburg 8-0 8-0                             2.Wartburg
3 Bethel 7-1 7-1                                 3.Linfield
4 Linfield 6-1 6-1                                4.St. John's
T5 Chapman 6-1 6-1                           5.Chapman
T5 St. John's 7-1 7-1                           6.UW-Platteville
7 UW-Platteville 6-2 6-2                      7.UW-Oshkosh
8 UW-Oshkosh 4-1 4-4                        8.Bethel
9 St. Thomas 6-2 6-2                          9.St. Thomas
10 Pacific 5-1 5-2                               10.Pacific
I think you probably have Bethel too low here--They have the best SOS of any of these teams, have a win against a ranked opponent (St. Thomas) and an equal W/L record to Platteville---If Platteville wins this week--it could knock Oshkosh out of the rankings (though maybe not since Pacific may also lose and would be the first to go in that event) which kind of hurts Platteville as they would no longer have a win against a RRO (unless someone else moves in)...I think Bethel is probably going to be sitting just above Platteville this week (at around 6)--and I think they have a very good shot at pool c.
Go Cats!

I must say, the current set of Bethel posters are very gracious as well as insightful.

And I miss Mighty Royal and his Chuck Norris jokes.  Please come back.

Dam* decent of you ROR!

It is fun to come on here and BS with folks who are equally excited about MIAC / D3 football (and beer)...just so happens that it is  > 90% Johnnie fans.

I got a new job yesterday, I've been promoted to head greenskeeper here at Bushwood. I wouldn't normally mention an event like this, but when I found out last Wednesday and told the wife this No Way moment actually happened:

Literally five minutes after walking in the door last Wednesday (I'd called during the day with the news) she asked me if I had noticed that Mercedes SUV someone has for sale on the way home from the station (I drive a 15 year old Camry). "You're kidding, right?"  "What do you mean?  They just dropped the price and it looks like a good deal."  She claims it had no relevance at all to the day's events. I'm smiling to myself as I type this. Cracks me up.

Are you still going to make ROR pay you back for the ticket?  ;D

This ranking explains why Wartburg looked to me like the UST team that played MU in the Stagg Bowl. They have put together a very good team with a good RB and accurate QB as well as a couple of good WR's. When I saw the GAC QB he reminded me of the Wartburg QB. Similar in stature and accuracy, I would say the Wartburg QB has a stronger arm and throws a nice deep ball. The GAC QB throws more often and might be a bit more accurate.  I don't recall a single weakness in Wartburg's game.

That hypothetical ranking may be right, but come the actual games, you have to include MWC champ and Umac champ, so you probably lose your 7-8 teams. I think SJU playing Platteville is a good bet.

^^ What makes you think UWP makes the field, criteria-wise that is?

If a two loss team gets in-bethel or Platteville-maybe both? But Platteville's two loses are to the wiac champ and, I think, second place North Central or both loses to ranked opponents. Yes, Bethel losses to iiac and MIAC co-champ. I could see the ncaa not wanting to re-match the teams in the first round, so Platteville gets ranked higher to play SJU. I don't know if the ncaa is putting all one loss non-aq teams on the board first and then selecting the best 6 or are one and two loss teams in the mix from the start?
