buf, do they still have Sawdust City Days in Eau Claire. I remember heading over to Eau Claire one summer with my teammates on the Johnnie cross-country team to run a five mile race at this celebration and then hitting Water Street after the race for the rest of the day drinking way too many adult beverages. Those were the days.

Any posters on this board remember when it was alright to have keg parties in your dorms at SJU?

My grandmother is over eighty and still doesn't need glasses. Drinks right out of the bottle.  (Yasmine Bleeth comment valid unless prohibited by your College's code of ethics for Alums)

You mean its not all right to do that now?

It seemed more than all right 2 years ago!

Never saw us complaining!   (Although hauling the keg up the elevator and down the hall in a hockey bag prompted some grumbling)

JA, The hockey bag thing must be an SJU tradition. Sum Jr. tells me that's what they use for transporting their goods as well.
I fly any cargo that you can pay to run
The bush league pilots, they just can't get the job done
You've got to fly down the canyon, don't never see the sun
There's no such thing as an easy run

Back when the mode for attracting students was "let's be hip" and give the kids what they want, Freshman orientation ended with a school sponsored kegger across the Watab. Well, they called it a barbecue. I think I had a hamburger. We used to be able to have kegs without the hockey bag formality and even use campus facilities. Probably the last party permitted in the Alumni Lounge, which a friend of mine reserved for a Halloween party, (and I missed to go deer hunting) there were several kegs and alleged electric koolaid (not the mild stuff I make). Just when things were really smokin at the party, friend decides it would be great fun to shoot some bottle rockets down the Quad hallways. About the 3rd one ended up whizzing by within 6 inches of Fr. J.P.Earls' nose as he rounded the corner. That was the end of that party and the beginning of the new "student use of campus facilities" policy.

Ah, three days in sunny, warm Minnesota.  Ahhhhh. ...  Oops, I was remembering my summer at Camp Lincoln when I was 11.  Well, it wasn't warm but the sun was out on Sunday.

Great trip.  Met Fins on Saturday at the GCFB in St. Cloud for a couple of Duke of Wellingtons; Fins watched us eat and downed his Brother Benedicts before we repaired to the eelpout ale brewery for the real treat.  Fins was surprised when I expressed surprise at how good that stuff is.  (I never tasted homemade wine that was any good, so how was I to know you could make good beer in a bucket?)  Thank god Mrs. tmerton can't focus or aim a camera. Woke up the next day feeling great, though Mrs. tmerton did not feel so well as she drank wine all night (her error).

Duff was right - the meeting with John and Gary Fasching went a couple of hours (John: "If the nuns ran this place I'd have carpet on the floor outside my office instead of cement.")  Murphy did a nice job of capturing John in his book.  He really is a hoot.

The Natural Bowl is a beautiful place.  The first time we saw it on arrival, the Bennies were playing UM in lacrosse with a good number of Johnnies in attendance, highlighted by the bare chested 4 on the sidelines with their chests and backs painted in support of CSB.  Went back for a visit before we left yesterday when the bowl was quiet and empty; #2 son ran down to pose in the endzone.

Left with some Johnnie Bread and great memories.  Told #2 son if he didn't go there we were still going to come for a game.  Arrived home to cold rain, so not much better than MN, but good trip indeed.

Anyone able to get the Stagg moved out of Salem while I was away?

Like salmon to Capastrono?  I almost sucked coffee up my nose.

Glad to know you made it home safely, and thanks for the rave homebrew review.
I hope #2 son could feel a little bit of the electricity as he stood on our hallowed ground.
Sorry to say, we apparently lost ground on Salem while you were here. They're talking about making it a permanent site just to piss us off more.  ;)

Caffeine works faster that way. And isn't supposed to be "sparrows"?

You are both assigned to rent Dumb and Dumber this weekend and watch it. You'll know what I'm talking about after you watch it.

Wait, I've gotta catalog my zz top collection first.  The day I watch D&Der will not come soon.  I'm still getting over The Cable Guy and Terms of Endearment.

tmerton- Now that you got that out of the way, have jr. contact UW
Whitewater if he is SERIOUS about playing some good football. (only kidding, I'm sure St. Johns would be a great place to go)
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

The ale is going fast but I'm saving some for you. Had tmerton and the lovely Mrs. tmerton over for a tasting on Saturday night. Last I heard, they lived through it. Nice folks-hope to have them be regulars at the Stift..ies this fall.
So did you get a merit badge? Do you end the night around a campfire, singing kumbaya and dunking s'mores in Leinies?
Bad M:F ratio though.

I'm free any night this week...holla at your boy when you're free for some eelpout ale sampling.  I didn't pick up any merit badges, but kicked ass at drunken leinie bowling with a 201, 222, and a 158.  The 158 came after about 25 glasses of free honey weiss.  In addition, that 158, along with a left-handed 64 from one of the other guys, overcame career games for the other 3 members and won us the worst team game of the day.

Frank - Hope you downed a number of Leinie's Reds while thinking of Stiftungsfest celebrations.

I downed quite a bit of red, along with sunset wheat, light, amber light, honey weiss, berry weiss, honey berry, northwoods, big butt, creamy dark.

Heaven isn't too far away,
Closer to it every day

D&D is so much better than Cable Guy it's almost unbelievable.

I am not personally a Jim Carey fan, but D&D is one of my Top 3 movies of all time.
