Cool deal...any speculation as to who the $1.5 million dollar man is?

Was it a $1.5 million AUD donation?

Ha!  Pocket change.

EDIT: I just read the article and see it was all organised and donated by former players. Another tribute to the influence of John Gagliardi.

Congrats Chicago Tommie on your Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup!

I thought both teams looked tired last night, especially the defense for Tampa Bay. Been a long grind for both squads.

ChiTom, get out that roll of 100 dollar bills you've got wrapped in rubber bands in your pocket and buy a few rounds for the house. It's party time now because the next season begins in a few weeks!  ;)

At what point do we have to give up the "state of Hockey" moniker to Illinois?  Some quick googling reveals their high school association doesn't even sponsor the sport.  Looks like there might be close to 60 teams in various unsanctioned leagues.  Compared to Minnesota's 250 teams with less than half the population.  I'm sure all of Chicago will show up for the parade though.  https://twitter.com/WGNMorningNews/status/610750113078771712

When a professional hockey team wins their 3rd championship trophy since 2010 it simply means that they are the best NHL team in recent time. It has no reflection on the popularity of the sport or participation in the state as a whole.

So, the "State of Hockey" is safely residing in Minnesota. Detroit's moniker as "Hockeytown USA" might be more up for grabs.

Boys of Fall

Wouldn't the "State of Hockey" claim really have to be between Minnesota, Michigan, and Massachusetts?  Not sure there's another state that has the hockey following and popularity below the NHL level to make that claim, or even care about that claim.

I haven't read about any riots, burned vehicles or looted stores in Tampa Bay.  Don't they care?

BOF, it comes down to this:

That article is very accurate. Hockey is life to a lot of families in Minnesota. No other state compares, some hockey fans in Canada refer to MN as the 11th Province!

While the Wings are no longer a solid bet to go deep every year, when Chicago has made the playoffs 24 straight years we can talk about "Hockeytown USA" being up for grabs! ;D
