The MIAC should be very fun to watch as the standings develop this year...will SJU continue their running campaign through the MIAC, or will they be more aerial this year?
With the leading rusher in the nation last year returning in Sam Sura my guess is that the running game will be a big part of the play book. That being said, once an opposing team loads the box to try to stop Sura,it's up to Nick Martin to find some open receivers. There is talent waiting to be showcased in this receiving crew, but make no mistake Sam Sura is the main course.

I'm eager to see who are going to fill the spots on D vacated by the graduation of  Rose & Workman. Speed kills and SJU has been stockpiling speed on both sides of the ball. It will be fun to see who steps forward and says "I'm ready"

I hope I'm proven wrong but I don't believe Martin will demonstrate that he is a great passer.  If I was coaching against SJU I would load the box and let Martin beat me...I just don't believe he has the skills to do it.

Didn't we have a new freshman playing third string last year?  Maybe we're up for a new three-year starter.

Even if we aren't about to get some new blood, we did alright last season with the crew we had, loaded boxes and all. If not for a dislocated shoulder I reckon we would have made the third round of the playoffs. Maybe further. Who knows?

I think you're thinking of Gunnar Anderson.

A tradition unrivaled...

I think there was some positivity around Messman, the SC Times POY from his senior year...

Having limited exposure to watching SJU last year (about 1/2 of the UST game, the full BU game, and full Wartburg game) I think they'll still find plenty of success, even against stacked boxes.  For the most part, BU limited big plays against SJU, but they were so consistent at picking up chunks of positive yardage on 1st and 2nd down, that their manageable 3rd downs were mostly either picked up by Sura, or Martin rolled out and found Bungum for a short pickup.  I'm sure teams will figure out how to limit it somewhat, but having their ground game, and a mobile QB, especially in tandem with a deadly short route receiver like Bungum, is a potent combo.  That is exactly what powered BU through the Wetzell and Aakre years, and Martin is at the very least an equally skilled passer to them (likely more so).

I hate wishing away summer, but am excited for the season to get rolling!  Also, appreciative that D3 games get exciting so quickly, rather than enduring a non-conference schedule that includes one interesting game, if you're lucky, a-la D1.  (the BU - Wartburg non-con might be a little too "interesting", however.)

I'm glad I'm not a dentist from Eden Prairie/Bloomington these days. Lots of raging anti-dentites out there.

Amen to that!  As much as I love the D3 season, I'm glad that it's not here yet.

I'd be lion if I disagreed with you, BDB.

A dentist walks into a bar with a giraffe and they both start drinking hard. After about an hour the dentist gets up to stumble from the joint, leaving the giraffe passed out on the floor. As the dentist approaches the door the bartender yells out, "Hey! You can't leave that lyin' there!"  The dentist replies, "That's not a lion, mate. It's a giraffe."

There was a protest today at the River Bluff Dental Clinic. Someone had a sign that read "I Am Cecil."

Good grief.  :P

And I ain't lion lyin'.

OzJohnnie

Look, I'm not one to be killing things, I never even hunted when I lived in Minny, but you have to be impressed with Cecil. Did you see the teeth in that thing?  Frickin' giant chompers.

On the serious side, though, there has been a lot of crying over this slain beast which no one ever heard of before. Folks should have more pride.
