I don't take exception to it. I think it's dumb but I'm hardly offended by it. It's like complaints about running up the score, whether SJU vs Bethel in 1993 or St. Thomas and SJU in 2011. Don't like it, stop them. Same thing here. Don't like it, don't let them beat you. But that doesn't mean it doesn't look ridiculous and/or just weird.

Wrong...classless and petty move by GC!!!  You don't shower, dress and come back out on the field an hour after the game has been decided and take a team photo!

Want a distraction?  Nate Fyfe of Fremantle, likely winner of the MVP award, fractured his fibula in the opening game minutes of the game against Hawthorn but played out the whole contest.  He underwent surgery today.  Tough nut.

We have a BINGO Oz. UST clearly controlled both sides of the ball.

Also, someone mentioned after the first game vs. Dubuque that SJU has a "work in progress" at QB in a 4 yr. starter. Alex Kofed was the last "play maker" QB at SJU. SJU needs to recruit and develop QBs that are bigger than life and can back it up on the field like Ramler and Linneman of years gone by.

Well, now the Johnnies need to win out and hope they can sneak into the playoffs through the back door.

I'm pretty sure that was my comment, 105, on the "work in progress" at QB you're talking about.   Hard to "blame" Martin for the loss when he passed for 252 yards, yet I left with the feeling that there needs to be more there.  It's pretty clear nothing much is gonna change this year.  He's our guy, for better or worse.  If he comes out for one reason or the other, it's Johnny Benson going in, and I don't see all that much difference in result there.

I'm not hanging the loss on Martin, there is plenty of blame to go around. And I agree, there is no alternative on the bench waiting to come in. The point was the fumble on the first series, (lucky no points off that) and the 2 picks in the 2nd half that turned into UST TDs. My wife even asked who he was throwing to on the first one. There either were several communication errors (receiver/QB on different pages) or panic mode set in & he threw it up for grabs. When in doubt get outside the tackle box & throw it 10 rows into the stands, and play another down.Don't turn the ball over and give the opposition a short field.

As a sports writer in Dallas mentioned with the injury to Tony Romo, the Cowboys need to consider any series that ends in a kick as a win. With Brandon Weeden at the helm, just don't turn the ball over and they can be in the game. If he starts putting it on the ground or throwing picks it's over because he doesn't possess the ability that Romo does to make something out of nothing.

The Johnnies haven't had that "make something out of nothing" QB since Kofed, they need to find these guys in the future and develop them once they get to Collegeville. Not just "well, we have the QB from XYZ high school in (pick your football powerhouse Twin Cities suburb) coming here next year"- with the recruiting trail reachng far and wide there must be QBs out there wanting to play D3 football, then once on the team nurture & develop the player to his potential.

Is that right? Why exactly is that a petty move again? Please compound for us. Perhaps you'd be less sensitive if he gathered the team for that photo immediately following the game, while still in uniform and in view of your players, coaches and fans?

Toughen up, Faunch.

Good to see you back DoubleO. Johnnie-Tommie week must be about to start.

Oh, wait. It just finished.  I guess we're lucky the Tommies won or else we would have waited a whole year longer, or more, until we were graced with your tardy bandwagon presence.

So, let's all charge our glasses to the Tommie bandwagon.  Long may it roll, empty until after they win.

Double O please correct me if I'm wrong…..I'm sure you will. Have you ever met Caruso? You probably don't know, but faunch & Caruso live in the same neighborhood. There has been interaction over years. His  (faunch's) opinion has been formed over time, not just this one action. For whatever it's worth his personal interaction takes precedent over anything else the rest of us may think.

Congrats Toms. You were the better team yesterday. Controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Held Sam Sura in check and made it a long afternoon for Nick Martin.

Second, whoever the Tommie fan (definitely a student) was who was shaking hands inside the main gate around noon was a really cool guy. Decked out in purple, he was just shaking hands of the Johnnie fans and saying "good luck today." He wasn't talking smack, not being a punk, just sincerely happy to be there and looking forward to a good game. For as much **** as we give eachother throughout the season, this week in particular, it was nice to see and to talk with this kid for a few minutes. He seems to have a handle on what this rivalry is about. Kudos!

Now don't get me wrong, I drink plenty of the red Kool-Aid, but did anyone else think that the play calling was a little suspect for the Johnnies yesterday? I haven't gone back and looked at the recap or stats yet, but it seemed pretty much every 1st down was a run between the guards for 1-2 yards, followed by a run between the guards for 1-2 yards, bringing up a 3rd and long where the Tommies could pin their ears back and go after Martin. I get when you have Sura you run him, but why not off tackle or try to get him outside on a toss-sweep like UST ran so well? Maybe I didn't notice the same play calling strategy in the 1st 3 games given his success running the ball, but when it wasn't really working there didn't seem to be an adjustment. Yes, Sura broke a couple for 8-10 yards up the gut so there were glimmers of hope, but why didn't SJU try a play action to pull the defense forward or maybe even a screen pass since they were getting beat up front? It just seemed like the offensive play-calling was incredibly rigid and unimaginative yesterday.

Well it was a great game...I thought and still think SJU should have used the short pass game more effectly. The Toms were daring them to pass and were focused on shutting down the run.  Tommies OL is big and fast and the DL was explosive.  SJU should of changed the game plan earlier and forced the Tommies to adjust. I will be up next week for the UST game...go Tommies!!!

BU looked good today, about what you'd expect against Carleton right now. So you can't get overly excited.

Having said that, they are gelling and improving. Most importantly, Trey Anderson and the offense seem to be finding their groove. He was throwing some dimes today. The more comfortable he gets, the more dangerous this offense is gonna be. They've got tons of weapons at the skill positions, just need to be able to get them the ball in space.

Having said that, games against SJU, UST and Cobbers will be won in the trenches. As we saw today in Caruso-ville  ;) :-X (just couldn't resist)

Tuned in on the Bethel webcast in the middle of the second quarter.  That just looked awful.  I'm not sure if Carleton just played really well last week or if Augsburg isn't as good as we think, but at least that was a real game for the first half.  I'm looking forward to seeing how Bethel matches up against Tommies and Johnnies.  Also, still a little surprised GAC beat Augsburg like they did.  Again, is Augsburg just not as good as I though pre-season?

MadRedFan

sjusection105 I think we are on exactly the same page on the QB situation, I wasn't "absolving" Martin, and did say there needs to be more there.   Hopefully won't bite us again this year.

Mr. Coleman, likewise, I wasn't "happy" with the QB play or defending it, just saying I'm not sure it was THE thing that did the Johnnies in yesterday.  Trying to stay somewhat positive and not point at any one individual.

I said to my wife the Bennie more than once yesterday, on a sack or pass off the back foot that went sailing away, "that one was on Jimmie".  Trying to use the long passing game yesterday against that rush was not the best.  Not much pocket there for very long.  And while the coin toss choice, and taking the 4th quarter wind, made sense, it was pretty darn hard in the 3rd quarter trying to come back against the wind with the passing game.  Even Bungum's long one (the 32 yarder??) was underthrown.

Taking a team picture after everyone has left is classless now? Doh'Kay.

I guess the part where they scored more points than SJU  in front of all their friends and family was also classless. Lighten up. SJU took a team pic when Gags tied the record at UST. No one cared. It was a big game for UST yesterday, ESPN was there and they beat a very good team. They waited until everyone left. You guys have officially left the building if people taking a picture makes you that mad.

For the record, I have met him on multiple occasions. My knowing him has nothing to do with the fact that there is nothing wrong with taking a team picture on an opponent's field an hour after a game. Completely irrelevant.

Johnnie fans spend the week telling obscene jokes about them and then call them classless for taking a picture.  Too funny.

It actually makes me a little sad for the Tommie football program if you are saying that winning a rivalry game that gets played every year is as big of a deal to them as tying the record as the winningest coach in college football history.  That's your pinnacle? That being said, I am not upset, I just think it is a bit odd.
