Congrats to Coach Caruso on career victory 489. Next week should be special as he goes for 490.

Like it or not, the 50 yd line & logo is part of the unwritten rules of sports...don't walk across the pitchers mound, kick the ball out of bounds when an opponent goes down in soccer, etc. I'm honestly not bothered by the exact position of the photo, and it looks like they could use some alignment help. Though for many I think they see the fact of doing it at that spot, well after the game was over, as a sign of disrespect.

The curious part to me is that he grouped the players back together an hour after the game to do it. I would've guessed he had time to tell the team during his TO w/ 0:03 to stick around immediately after the game to take a pic. Why not simply let the players enjoy the moment...in the locker room, on the bus, however they see fit...instead of making another moment?

Again, they won & were the better team. Good for them.

I'm going to have to disagree with you about the timing. I think if they would have done it right after the game then there would have been a lot more backlash from the Johnnie fans. Sounds like you have seen the picture. Can you see the SJU logo in the picture? If not, what difference does it make where the picture was taken?
Yep.
sfury posted a link to the photo a couple pages back Reply#73822- take a look & decide for yourself.

That's not the team picture taken by St. Thomas, it's probably a picture taken by a Johnnie fan in the stands. It's so far away you can't even make out any faces so you can't deduce anything from that picture. I want to see the official picture taken by St. Thomas before I make any decision.
Hello RoyalsFan that photo was by Judd Zulgad (or an assistant) from 1500 ESPN Radio from the press box and posted to his Twitter feed.
As you can see in the foreground there are photographers, maybe even UST school photographers.

Doesn't make any difference who took that photo, it wasn't an official team photo released by St. Thomas. I'm saying that if you really don't see the SJU logo in the official team photo, then the photo itself isn't being disrespectful. That's why I want to see the team photo released by St. Thomas.

I bet the official photo was taken far from the 50 yd like and somehow all 100+ independently moved to the middle of the field and unknowingly had their picture taken by the people holding cell phones directly on from of them.

That or Judd Zulgad photoshopped it. It was probably that.

Debate the merits of our criticism all you want but stop pretending the moment didn't happen. That's just silly.

Maybe that wasn't their "official team" that walked all the way around the endzone bleachers and another 60 yards or so out the to logo?  Maybe it's a cardboard cutout?.  Maybe SJU photoshopped the picture to get everybody all riled up?

Whatever the case considering that Zulgad posted his photo on Twitter I'd be willing to wager that if an official photo is ever released the logo won't be shown even if it was in the original shot.  Not too difficult to crop it out.

I never said that the moment didn't happen - where did I say that or even suggest that the photo was fake? I am debating whether or not the team photo released by St. Thomas is disrespectful or not. If it shows the logo, then I agree it is being disrespectful and publicly rubbing it in. If not, then it is nothing more than a team photo. Sometimes I think Johnnie fans are a bit sensitive, especially when it comes to St. Thomas, and vice versa. Like someone else pointed out, Johnnie posters were making marginally obscene jokes about Tommies all week long and then get upset when they take a team photo on their field.

It's probably not the official team photo since it's a distant shot and you can't really make out individuals, but since St. Thomas published it on Twitter it is publicly rubbing it in IMO and uncalled for.

Got a chuckle from the St. Thomas Facebook comments after the win:

"I can only say...I have my phone...ready to call 911. I am in the heart of St. Thomas party houses."

Due to ongoing family drama, I was preoccupied and decided to limit my banter in lead up to the Tommie-Johnnie game this year. I have no problem with the Johnnies' marginally obscene jokes aside from the fact that most of them were not all that funny. As for the game, the Tommies played well and the Johnnies didn't live up to their potential. I could care less where teams want to take photos. From what I saw/heard through the broadcast and from fan feedback, two things that did seem a little disrespectful: 1) Too many sh**faced Tommies were staggering around, acting like a**holes. I think we need to do a better job representing our alma mater. 2) The Johnnie broadcasters showed extreme bias and borderline contempt for the Tommies. At one point, one of the guys referred to UST as "the evil empire" that everyone hates. I found that comment and many others to be pure bush league. Say what you will about the "good neighbor," but WCCO is a professional outfit that represents the Tommies, and the rest of the MIAC, with class.

I like how Wildcat 11 started all of this and Linfield takes a picture with a selfie stick after every W.

Come on now! Is this your first season on the board (I know it's not)? Now admittedly the jokes were a bit one-sided this year, but that is because many of the Tommie fans had jumped off the bandwagon. There have been plenty of years with "all Johnnies are gay and Bennies are fat" jokes leading up to the game. If your memory is foggy on that, feel free to look back! ::)

UPDATE: Coach Gary Fasching, still troubled by UST's dominance, has decided that holding hands is not enough to ensure an SJU victory.  He's called for team back massages in order to loosen up for the weekend game.  He's quoted as saying, "Carpe Diem...seize the day boys, make those massages extraordinary."  Coaching legend John Gagliardi, asked for his thoughts on the rather unorthodox coaching technique, replied with, "Aw Shucks."  Meanwhile, UST Coach Glenn Caruso, citing Sun Tzu's direction to "know your enemy," has changed his PhD dissertation topic to A Psychology of Male Massage: The Collegeville Experiment.

I took the fam into the Palaestra for a halftime break, and a young Johnnie approached me to ask if I could help him get his buddy out of the "detox" facility they had set up in the gym.   :o

About the same time, I noticed a young basketball recruit being shown the gym.  ;D

I'm not calling for Caruso's head for the photo, but it's just yet another reason to dislike the guy.  Another thing that bugs me about the photo is the fact that he's getting and center.  "Look at me!!!"

No one will argue with his success; he's obviously a great football mind and a great recruiter, but at least from the outside looking in, he comes off as about as arrogant and self-obsessed as they come.
