**EDIT** Russ' teammate from Sartell hasn't had much luck either in recent years- Ned Wrightson.

Sheesh, that is one heck of an article...and all the pictures!  Sad stuff.
To lighten the mood and make everybody feel old:  Russ' son Mason is a junior at Rapid City Stevens High School and seems to have a good head on his shoulder to go along with his love of hoops.

I can see the SJU crowd being distracted by high school sports with Carleton on the schedule (altho I hope the team is not similarly distracted), but one would think the Bethel and Tommie folks would have something to say about college football at this point in the week!!!   ???

I mean not to compare Carleton to a HS team, only that the Johnnies might be taking them lightly!!

Josh Bungum and Nick Martin are engaged in a bitter and long Twitter war about the controversial 1982 title game between Winona Cotter and Chisholm so we might have to worry about them being distracted! Focus, men!

Well, I'm hopeful that they can keep it interesting...the defense has really played well in some games, perhaps enough to keep it close, but we'll see.  It could end up much like the SJU - UST game, where they'll eventually wear down.  Based on the UST - SJU result, and UST's results overall, they seem to be playing very well right now.  I'm not sure that a BU team with a freshman QB, and an o-line that is very inexperienced and shuffled around due to a string of injuries to that group, will be up to the task.

Hoping for the best!  The dream of a MIAC title is still alive (win out, and have UST beat CORD), but I'm afraid it is little more than a dream.

Wow.  The ultimate crazy eyes:

And I have to ask, what is this?  Who does this dog belong to?  The article doesn't say (the reporter's dog?) but it does have this caption:

Mixi watched from the PolkCountyToday.com Jeep in disbelief.

How many late bloomers at huge schools just never get a chance or get weeded out in middle school or JV levels, who would actually make really solid d3 athletes?

This fits me to a "T" - I put on almost 50 pounds of muscle lifting my first 2 years out of high school. I went to a high school "reunion party" over Christmas break after my first season at Bethel (third year of college)  and a lot of people did not recognize me.

Desire to play got me where I had a chance to be on the field. However, it had little, if anything, to do with the size of the high school I attended. Playing at the D3 level was the only chance I had because I was a late bloomer.

He has sanpaku eyes. He is not right, but he does have that in common with such characters as Adolf Hitler and Osama bin Laden. So he has that going for him.

According to Chinese medical face reading, when the bottom of the white part of the eye, known as the sclera, is visible it represents physical imbalance in the body and is claimed to be present in alcoholics, drug addicts and people who over-consume sugar or grain. Conversely, when the upper sclera is visible it is said to be an indication of mental imbalance in people such as psychotics, murderers, and anyone rageful.

I'm morbidly curious to look TDT in the eyes now and see what kind of crazy we're dealing with.

EDIT: If anyone has TDT's number you better call him now.  It's looking desperate.

For thousands of years, people of the Far East have been looking into each other's eyes for signs of this dreaded condition. Any sign of sanpaku meant that a man's entire system — physical, physiological and spiritual — was out of balance. He had committed sins against the order of the universe and he was therefore sick, unhappy, insane. The condition of sanpaku is a warning, a sign from nature, that one's life is threatened by an early and tragic end.

Carelton week, let's go Johnnies!!  ::)

I'll be tuning in via the webcast.  It's my favorite wife's birthday tomorrow, and I'm heading to Orlando on Sunday and leaving her as a single mom for the week, so I guess I won't drag her to Northfield.

I think we're going to check out the new Omni Brewing Taproom in Maple Grove.  Review to follow.

A tradition unrivaled...

Interested to hear what you think of it!  One of the founders is an SJU alum, and was an MBA classmate of mine, so I've got intentions of making it over there at some point.  The brewery was in the infancy of its planning stages when we were working together on a project, so I'm excited for them that they made it happen.

Will Sura go for over 200 yards this week?  I think there's a good chance of it.

Tom Thumb

I came across a nice article on Jordan Roberts: http://thecatholicspirit.com/featured/ball-carrier-faith-warrior/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+thecatholicspiritcom+(Latest+Content+from+TheCatholicSpirit.com). Sounds like he's a great kid.

It was nice getting back to UST last weekend for the Hamline game. Another solid game for the Tommies. UST got WR Jack Gilliland back, which was nice to see. He has been injured all season. Gilliland should provide another option for Dakota Tracy on the outside. Nick Waldvogel also appears to be settling in at WR. Tracy has been looking his way a lot more these past few games.

Well, on to Bethel. Should be a good game. Bethel fans travel well so it should be a packed house. Is it just me or is there some type of bromance between Steve Johnson and Glenn Caruso? They are both so passionate about how much respect they have for each other. I find it hilarious. But on a serious note, it is good to see two coaches praising each other's programs. Very classy.  ;)

He's clearly from the past...arrived appropriately during BTTF week.

That, and he's way off base.  I think that Colin Tobin and Ben Wartmann's performances have been key for UST this year.
