We're in.

I reckon you're right. A huge game for the defense. When BU tried to kick it up in the second half the D kept the door closed. A great performance.  Good job, Johnnies.

I have to give mad props to Jimmy G. and the offensive staff for the game plans they have had this season. Other than the UST game,Jimmy has really taken the weakness of an opposing defense and exploits it. Case in point, today he stuck with the option runs from Martin even after a couple fumbles and set up Bethel beautifully on some play action passes and naked bootlegs later in the game.

Nick Martin is really coming along nicely as the season progresses. Martin's foot speed is deceptive (as is Sura's) and his speed in the open field just goes to show his versatility. There is no coincidence that Martin was MN high school big school high hurdle champion back in the day.The kid has a set of wheel on him.

The Orange County connection in the secondary accounted for all 3 Int. today for the Johnnies. The weather isn't that bad in Central MN, is it boys...?

Gary and staff will put together a plan for the Oles and from there it's in the hands of The Committee  8-)

As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

art76 & hazzbeen, I'm sure you will find this amusing. Mrs. 105 & I walked up to the gate to pay and were greeted by two cheerful Bethel undergrads.

BU:"Two adults?"
Me: "Yes"
BU: "$12 please."
Me: Pull out $20 and hand it to the young man.
BU: Digs in cash tray & pulled out a $10 and 2 $1's
Me: Ah, the change is $8.......
BU: Ummmm, I'm a Physics Major...haha
Me: So, do they teach the new Physics here, that doesn't require math?
BU:uncomfortable nervous laughter......

I had a somewhat similar experience earlier this year. Admission was $6 and since I didn't want a bunch of 1's back I gave the young lady a $10 and a $1, thinking that it would be evident that I wanted a $5 back. She looked puzzled for a bit and then said that I gave her too much. I said yes, just give me the difference back so she proceeded to give me the $1 back plus 4 other $1's.

I've done that at the gas station with the same results. Last week at Coborn's,I gave the cashier the exact coinage & she still couldn't figure it out ::)

Congrats to the Johnnies today - they played a solid game all around and it should seal a playoff bid.

Being the last home game for the Royals and it being Seniors Day, I was a bit surprised a how flat Bethel started the game. Didn't see much emotion from the players even before the game started. It really showed on the very first defensive series when Bethel committed 3 costly penalties during the drive. Then a fumble on Bethel's next possession, a blocked punt a little later, the kickoff returner touching his knee down to catch a kickoff, completing only a couple of passes and losing the starting qb to a knee injury, it was an ugly 1st half for the Royals. They did play better in the 2nd half but the Johnnies held them out of the end zone for a dominating win today.

Great all around game for SJU today, as someone else noted, particularly the play calling.  There were several series where BU seemed to have Sura bottled up, and SJU would run a timely FB dive to take advantage  of all the attention that Sura was getting, and pick up a quick 5+ yard run.  Also some good option runs out of Martin, and well timed pitches.

I was disappointed in the offensive performance out of BU...just flat and no urgency.  Bummed to see Trey Anderson go down with another torn ACL (what I heard).  Feel terrible for the kid.  Sura had a great game...picks his pay around blocks well, and has a decent speed burst when he gets a lane.

Looking forward to seeing SJU in the playoffs!

I don't know that I would say Sura had a 'great' day, I thought Bethel kept him contained pretty much all day. He had 36 rushes for 102 yards which is only a 2.8 yard average, compared to his normal season average of 5.9 yards per carry.  It was obvious that Bethel's goal was to stop Sura. Unfortunately it left other areas pretty open, especially in the defensive secondary which Martin took advantage of.

Martin played well today, especially throwing the ball. The two passing TDs were dropped in beautifully - and had equally nice catches on the receiving end. Late in Q3 he unleashed one to Bungum that fell incomplete but had to have traveled 50 yards in the air and into the wind. Nice to see that kind of arm strength.

His nicest pass might have been a completion to Bungum early in Q1. It was a roll out right that looked like nothing was open but he patiently waited for Josh to clear the middle of the defense before dropping one right  on the sideline.

Today wasn't Sura's best day but he kept grinding. I think some of his low YPC was a product of BU focusing in on him - potentially to much. It opened up a lot of things, notably the FB dive.

Don't box scores typically include total penalties & yards? BU had some untimely (dumb) ones today. I wanted to see the full count but couldn't find them on their box score.

TOMMIES freshmen did very well in the 3rd quarter!!!😀 80-3 and they pulled most of the starters by the end of the second quarter...most of the 133 players on the team played and still dominated! I hope they don't get too comfortable and understand that the level of play will increase dramatically in the play-offs!

Too many by SJU, too.  I lost count of false starts.  :-\

Found it. 10-87 for SJU. You're right Duff, too many. 4-66 for BU - they made them count.

Thought you all might appreciate my wife's take on the BU - St. John's game today. I shared with her that the Johnnies scored all their points early, then the starting QB for Bethel went out with an injury, and that neither team scored after that. She asked me why they didn't take out the starting QB earlier.  ;)

I shared earlier that I would share my thoughts on the St. John's/Bethel vs the Linfield/Whitworth games. Linfield, St. John's, Whitworth and Bethel in that order. I really don't think the Johnnies can beat the Wildcats, but Bethel might be able to give Whitworth a run for it's money.

Hopefully the Johnnies can get a home game to start the post season play. Depending on how they get stuck on the board, I would think that they should be able to get to the round of 8.  Best of luck to them as they finish this season and move on.
