So this is a serious question. I have lots a watches ranging in price from $8 to $1000s. One thing that I've steered away from is Rolex. I've lately taken an interest in the no-date submariner. Question: When you see a Rolex on someone's wrist does it generate any positive/negative feelings?
A Rolex is like a Lexus, everyone who thinks they've "made it" has one.
May I ask why you care what anyone thinks about what kind of watch you wear? If it's what you want, buy it. Don't worry about what kind of "feelings" people have.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I'm simply polling friends. I've always thought there was a stigma with Rolex and recently a friend mentioned that that's no longer the case. I'm trying to figure out if that's a DC thing or not. My baseline for "normal" is Minnesota.

That depends which crowd you run with. If your group is the whole "income inequality" haters, then don't buy a Rolex.... ::)

Does SJU pour it on tomorrow in hopes of "impressing" the committee, or do they try to get a bunch of guys into the game?

Maybe they should wear Rolexes...

I would imagine it would be some combination of both.

I don't think SJU needs to impress the committee. Any comfortable win will do.

If Gustavus had played a little better non-conference competition and increased their SOS, you might have wanted to take it easy on them.   A close loss to St. John's could have propelled them into the regional rankings (or kept them in the rankings) giving the johnnies another regionally ranked win.

So, behind-the-back passes by the third-string guys?

The Rolex question is complicated. I am in the if you want one, and can afford one, get one camp.

Personally though, I wonder why someone would get one now. It is no longer a timepiece, it is a fashion accessory, and something that tells people something about the wearer. If you don't mind that some will think of you negatively, go ahead. It says as much about them, as you wearing a Rolex says about you. Envy is also a Cardinal Sin.

Only if the pass is by Gunnar Anderson! With an awesome QB name like that, he can throw any pass he wants.

You're going to want to use your first string TE and second string TE for that.

Come on now, a Rolex watch is old money. Waste your new money on things like Marshawn Lynch's navy blue Buscemi shoes (they're only $600-900).

I can't imagine driving a Lamborghini without Rolex.

Okay, looking for serious input here...

Under the smirk it was serious.  If you want a watch that anyone who sees it knows what it is then buy a Rolex. If you want a watch that watch people know then buy a Swiss commercial label but not Rolex or Cartier or Tissot, which are too mainstream.

If it makes you happy, go for it.  I think it's a stupid purchase, but I have money tied up in things that you'd probably call stupid, so if watches are your thing, and you have the cash, I say go nuts!
