Is it safe to say that this is one of the most consequential Tommie-Johnnie games ever played?
That depends on whose view you are approaching this from.
1.Current student fan base with no perspective of history? Yes, it would be.
2.Glenn Caruso, yes. If the Tommies lose,he is 1 and 3 to Gary Fasching in his (Fasching) three years as Head Coach of SJU
3.Gary Fasching, of course he wants to win and move to the regional finals but a loss to a higher ranked team on the road will not derail his long term plans at SJU
4. Alumni fan base....bragging rights for the next year.  Sure it's a big game, but it will take something more than this to erase a 12 game winning streak. If the winner goes on to win the Stagg Bowl then hindsight could say this game was very consequential.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I'm betting closer to 5k than 8k.  Obviously, depends a lot on the weather.

Attendance for LaVerne shows 832.

SJU shows 0 for attendance.  Looked pretty sparse on the webcast.

Having to pay to attend won't impact U$T students.  Very small part of allowance.   ;)  Big impact on CSB/SJU students.  ;D

Before anyone jumps me I had both.  Of course I like the CSB grad better than the UST grad.  CSB grad has more class.   :o

I was told that the attendance was a typo and was actually 1832, but apparently they didn't bother to fix the box score.

A University of St. Thomas grad and his wife are lying in bed one night listening to the next door neighbor's dog.  It has been in the backyard barking for hours and hours.

Finally the Tommie jumps up out of bed and says, "I've had enough of this."  He goes downstairs.

About ten minutes later he finally comes back up to bed and his wife says,"The dog is  still barking...what have you been doing?"

The UST guy says, "I put the dog in OUR backyard; let's see how THEY like it!

So a Johnnie was supposed to be tending to the house. Why wasn't he on point? Must be distractions associated with this weekend.

At the local parish the priest noticed that the most successful Tommie in the whole congregation hadn't made a contribution. This guy was making about $600,000 a year so the priest thought, "Why not call him up?"

He calls up the Tommie. "Sir, according to my records you haven't made a contribution to the parish, would you like to do so?"

The Tommie responds, "A contribution? Do your records show that I have an invalid mother who requires expensive surgery once a year just to stay alive?"

The priest is feeling a bit embarrassed and says, "Well, no sir, I'm..."

"Do your records show that my sister's husband was killed in a car accident? She has three kids and no means of support!"

The priest is feeling quite uncomfortable at this point. "I'm terribly sorry..."

"Do your records show that my brother broke his neck on the job and now requires a full time nurse to have any kind of normal life?"

The priest is completely defensive at this point. "I am sorry sir, please forgive me..."

"The gall of you people!" says the Tommie.  "I don't give them anything, so why should I give it to you?!?"

Being that this is the first NCAA playoff meeting between the two, I'd say so.  Winner moves on.  Loser turns in their pads.  Although, 2014 was quite consequential for the Johnnies.  A loss would have been their second and more than likely kept them out of the playoffs, but the win propelled them to a MIAC title and playoff berth.

A tradition unrivaled...

I see UST winning this one.  UST's D is very fast and physical and I think will be able to handle what SJU throws at them.  I don't know if SJU's D can hold up through 4 quarters against that big OL though (much like the first game).  Plus the UST TE's were impressive to me when I saw them play UWLX.  I think they will make a difference in the game.  I could be wrong but I see the score turning out the same as the first time around.

Double O- Loyola plays for state championship on Saturday-was an interesting game yesterday.

Interesting to say the least. Palatine was playing their best football at the right time of year, so tough to gauge whether it was their playing extremely well or LA playing down to competition-most likely a combination of both. Did you see the LA/HF game the week prior? That goes down as one of the best HS football games I have ever seen. It probably creates some basis for the proverbial let down for LA after a huge W. You'd have to think that LA was expected to beat Palatine by about as much as they're predicted to beat Marist by (22 pts).

This weekend creates a tough decision. There's a bunch of neighborhood guys who chartered a bus going to DeKalb for LA/Marist. Otherwise, I'm considering flying up to St. Paul Sat. am to take in Tom/John II. Decisions, decisions!

Not officially.

I would imagine the NCAA has some rule that prevents rivalry trophies during tournaments because we would hate to have any kind of added character or storylines for the game.

I'm not aware of any rules one way or the other. I know that the Cortaca Jug has changed hands in the playoffs.

Well, then let's wheel it out!

Just a reminder, but it would be UST doing the wheeling out...      :)

I think that's what Sag meant, wheel it out as it's changing hands!

I was just looking at St. John's on Google maps in order to refresh my memory about something on campus and I noticed that there is a game on the field but hardly anyone in the stands and only a few players on the sidelines on a summer day. Any guess what it is?  A camp scrimmage?
