Put a lid on anything it gets loud. Alerus Center has a bunch of apathetic hockey fans watching football half interested and they cause several false starts a game AO. The lid makes it loud, fans aren't that much better or louder
You really think the Alerus center is as loud as the Fargodome?  Fargodome is consistently above 100 decibels with spikes up to 115.  It seems every single week one of the main questions the opposing coaches gets asked is about the noise being different than any other place they've played including other domes like the Dakota Dome or UNI Dome.  They all talk about how they pipe in super loud music during practice and switch to silent counts.  The crowd at the Fargodome does seem to be younger and drunker than the crowds at Clemens or TCF Bank, that's got to have some effect.

Reading comprehension AO. Never said "as loud" just loud. Also how loud a place gets is not major factor in what I consider to be a great atmosphere. I would rather watch a game in a "college setting" on a campus in the fresh air. Personal preference I guess. I like the feeling of being at a "college" game. Not indoors with piped in music and laser light shows.

Gotcha.  There's nothing worse than the never-ending music at NBA games.

Except for the game, itself.

USTBench

I've been to/been part of, two of what I consider the great rivalry games in the US. Obviously, UST v SJU, but there's also UND v NDSU when it was outside and the fans would pack the stadium and horseshoe around. Just awesome.

But, if we're talking smaller college atmosphere's I want to see/have yet to see:

Wabash v. DePauw (@ Wabash)
Williams v Amherst (@ Williams)
Montana v Montana St. (either)
Richmond v. JMU (@ JMU)

I think Pittsburgh State and NW Missouri State sold out Arrowhead Stadium once and Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan got 80,000 into the Big House once. If home field advantage wasn't such a big deal (which, if the last 5 years are any indicator, it's not) I would like to see UST and SJU at TCF. Just once. That'd be sufficient.

I'm confused. Are they healthy or not? A few pages back there were concerns about the RB position. Is Sag behind these rumors as well?

The storyline that they are a bunch of unknowns is BS.  This is D3.  Unless you are Pierre Garcon you are unknown to most except for hard core d3 fans.  I can name more UST players than any of the other teams on the semis.  They are getting plenty of press locally.  They are in the biggest press market of any of the remaining teams and the Strib and PP have been good to very good to them lately.  And the UST PR machine (and I say that with some jealousy) has been working non-stop to get the names out.

Much better angles than this Caruso created meme.

Jordan Roberts, anyone?

Of course you can, ROR. But our site is aimed at the majority of Division III, not hyperlocal to the MIAC.

I we are comparing to Alabama, yes they are unknown.

Since this is d3 I compare them to Mt. Union, Whitewater, Linfeild, Mary Hardin Baylor, Wabash, etc.  I couldn't name 5 players on those teams.  St. Thomas is in no way unique in regards to players being unknown.  Compared to those teams the Tommie players are well known.  I get it, Caruso likes to play the underdog role publicly.

Yes, a game at the Little Bank would be fun, but once probably would be enough.  I wonder how many fans it would have attracted this year.  The hassle involves with 17k getting in and out of Collegeville keeps some significant number away.

You must admit, this is hardly unique among college football coaches.

Pat, since you chimed in on the UST article I'd like to get your perspective on the inclusion of the Italy trip while leaving out any mention of the Canada trip. It's possible spacing was an issue, but generally the benefit of an online article is there isn't a set word count that has to be hit.

Of the 12 Freshman who were in Salem, how many are still with the team? Punter/WR Fitzsimmons was also there as a Sophomore (medical redshirt).

QuoteThat brotherhood was tightened by a two-week trip to Italy in the spring. The program had previously played in Canada in the spring of 2009 and 2012, and followed those trips with breakthrough seasons.

I mean literally drowsy. It's dimly lit, they don't serve beer, I strongly dislike the Bison, and they typically win by 30.
Don't think it's going to be a 30 point win this week.  They don't sell beer in the dome, but the tailgating is pretty ridiculous.  Those crazies still manage to spend plenty of time outdoors despite the game being played indoors.  I know you're not a Bison fan, but you've got to admit that you might feel completely different about the place if you were?

Um...of course they don't guys. Know any NCAA and/or high school playoff venues that do? Exactly.
http://vinepair.com/wine-blog/map-every-college-football-stadium-where-you-can-buy-a-beer/ 34 of the 128 FBS teams do.

The Alerus Center in Grand Forks sells hard alcohol and beer. You just can't have it in the student section.

Well - my bad guys. Allow me to remove my foot from my mouth. I was under the impression that the NCAA had a strict ban outside of a few skybox suites (and whatnot).

Speaking of skybox suites, does any DIII team have such a thing? I was talking to some alumni at the La Verne game who had also flown in from outside the Twin Cities. We all agreed it was pretty cold, especially for those now used to warmer climes. UST sells food and beer at the games, though one drawback is that the beer has to stay outside the stadium. One idea was for UST to build heated skybox suites, with private food and beer service, overlooking the field. A skybox option might attract more out of town alumni and provide opportunities for corporate ticket sales. Thoughts?
