Mr.MIAC

I just got back from a super late night...slightly boozed. The Happy Gnome was a great place and afterward we had maybe too much vodka at Moscow on the Hill. Tonight we went down to NE Minneapolis and it's shocking how much the place has changed. It used to be solidly sketchy and now it seems like a haven for hipsters.

I'll give Khan's Mongolian Barbecue a go for lunch tomorrow. It sounds like we're heading back to the Happy Gnome for beers tomorrow and then going to a place called the Vegas Lounge for karaoke. If anyone wants to meet up for a beer, let me know.

Sounds like you went to Psycho Suzi's.

Khan's Pro Tip:
Put your meat in the bowl first, then go around to the end and do your sauces, which un-freezes the meat, making more room in the bowl. Go back to add the veggies and put the noodles on top. If hungover, top off noodles with one more scoop of house spicy sauce and dragon sauce.

You're welcome.

I hit up the MOA last night. We ate at the Twin Cities Grill and had drinks at the JW Marriott connected to the mall. Both places were great, but the rest of the mall was rather boring. Tonight we're heading down to the Happy Gnome. Their beer menu looks impressive. Any recommendations?
Rev, if you're still in town trolling the 494 strip, do your belly a favor and go to Khan's Mongolian Barbecue at 494 & Portland. It's a nondescript building in a nondescript area, but the food is outstanding. Often copied, never equalled, you will be chewing long past full.

As the weather turns cold and windy, it can only mean one thing...yes, it's time for the Minnesota Fishing Opener. The pontoon is gassed up, the new Lowrance Elite 7 with Downscan Imaging is installed, and they now stock Hamm's beer at the Lodge. Giddyup!

Gonna be a cold opener...at least the Hamm's will stay cold!

The Johnnie's ball club has had a really strong year. I wish I could have been there to watch a game or two.

They had two pitchers, one guy in particular, play really strong and consistent years.

And soon we will have the Gagliardi Turf and Dome facility.  Going to be a game changer for soccer, football and baseball.  Athletes will be able to train the entire school year.

I took the dog for a walk down at the beach tonight and there was a beautiful, if slightly apocalyptic, view back up to the city looking over the bay.

From the 'Only in Australia' files:

On the left hand side of the photo a discount upmarket wine selection. On the right hand side a pet store.

There are two things Aussies love, wine and dogs. I'm surprised there aren't more shops like this.

Go Johnnies!  I love baseball championships.
Just out of curiosity, what happened to the Tommies in baseball?  They finished 25-15, but started out 19-3 and finished 6-12.  Was it the schedule, injuries, or just not playing as well?

I'm with Pat.  After watching the Jeff Jones press conference, it would have made a lot more sense if they had the students cheer for their fellow classmate who was accepted to Carleton or Harvard.  The coach gave a talk before Jeff's announcement mostly about how lucky Jeff was to be born with this athletic talent and he should be applauded for doing the bare minimum in the classroom to become eligible for a scholarship.
I believe you mean "to nearly become eligible"... things I'm hearing say his academic side isnt exactly eligible (ACT score) but the family was told "no need to worry about that. It can be taken care of."  Try imagining Gags, Caruso, Fasching, Johnson, etc saying that--- impossible!
I heard he needs another .2 on the GPA and 1 point on the ACT.  He should be able to do that just by showing up every day to class, but that seems to be a big struggle for the youth in Minneapolis based on the strib article from last year defending giving bus passes to all the kids.
UPDATE: Jeff Jones has failed his ACT again and will likely have to go to junior college.  Glad I don't worry about that with most D3 recruits.
3 day old news now, but our example of a waste of a signing day has found a new low.

Who needs smarts when you've got athletic talent? (coming from a guy who was blessed with more of the former than the latter)

What a waste.  I know that they're criminals, and by nature, already making poor decisions, but it always shocks me when someone doing something illegal gets pulled over for speeding.  It defies logic that you'd make yourself a target for police attention when you've got such high potential to land in jail on account of what you have with you.
