What a waste.  I know that they're criminals, and by nature, already making poor decisions, but it always shocks me when someone doing something illegal gets pulled over for speeding.  It defies logic that you'd make yourself a target for police attention when you've got such high potential to land in jail on account of what you have with you.

It's tough to guess, but I might hazard that if you're clever enough to follow your logic then you're probably clever enough to qualify for a DI athletic program.  Ipso facto.

Or maybe he just put on new, super huge rims and the speedometer was undercooked by a few MPH.  Can't help bad luck when you're rolling with style.

Just another speed bump on the road of broken dreams. He didn't even wait to sign a big money pro contract before self destructing. :o
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

The Johnnie's ball club has had a really strong year. I wish I could have been there to watch a game or two.

They had two pitchers, one guy in particular, play really strong and consistent years.

And soon we will have the Gagliardi Turf and Dome facility.  Going to be a game changer for soccer, football and baseball.  Athletes will be able to train the entire school year.

You mean that they don't already?

We're not wearing purple in this program, after all. We must compete despite the disadvantage. But you should dread how competitive we'll be after making this small step to close the gap.

We don't dread competition.  We thrive on it.  Get it build and schedule a home/away.   ;D

A bit of a bummer in Hawthorn-land as Jarrod Roughead, our key forward, has had a re-occurrence of melanoma. It's a common cancer in Oz with the intensity of the sun here, and melanoma is a an aggressive cancer.

He, of course, has asked that his privacy be respected as he only found out yesterday. So all the media, of course, got doctors to speculate about his condition and how unlikely it is that he'll ever see the footy field or his 35th birthday.  They were clever enough not to do that directly but the Herald Sun was lazy/cheeky enough to lift the description of a stage IV melanoma from the Cancer Council of Victoria website almost word for word.

EDIT: Intersting trivia on Roughead is that he's a good mate if Patty Mills of the Spurs. They played representative basketball together for years, Mills going to the Spurs and Roughy taking up footy.

I was at an Irish pub that hosted a pretty amazing acoustic set tonight. They sang Van Diemen's Land and it reminded me of you.

Yes, the Apple Isle, Tasmania. It is still referred to as Van Damien's Land from time to time. I like the name. It has a vampiric ring.  Beautiful spot, though.

I'm back in DC. We did a mini pub-crawl.

Stop#2: http://www.4psva.com

Both places had Irish acoustic groups on their American pub tours.

Have you been to the Garryowen Irish Pub in Gettysburg?  I've never been but my in-laws at dinner there w/ my nephew and daughter last summer.  Looks like a great place.

Unfortunately, we don't make it out to Gettysburg all that often. That place looks great so next time we'll be sure to check it out.

I'm sort of particular when it comes to British and Irish pubs. Having lived in the UK off and on over the past 10 years, I've come to value authenticity in my pubs. Most traditional pubs have some patina on the walls, the furniture is well-worn, customers order at the bar rather than at the table, shots aren't really a thing, and you'll usually find a couple of regulars queued up outside--ready for some day-drinking (most likely by necessity)--before the place opens. Too many places in the US try to replicate the traditional pub, but go overboard with the Disneyfication and miss some of the grittier details that make pubs special. You're left to enjoy a thin veneer of authenticity and a big plate of "Ye Old Nachos" or "Pot o' Golden Chicken Strips."

If there is one thing that England has given the world (other than the Magna Carta, abolition, common law, and the industrial revolution what have the Romans ever done for us?!?) the it's knowing how to properly suffer while you enjoy your beer.

It is true that beer does taste nicer when you drink at the public bar of a pub.  And the service does seem better when you ask a waiter for a drink and get told, "Line up at the f&@$!?g bar, mate."
