Anyone looking to kill a couple hours watching some footy, here's a good match from the weekend. Carlton v Geelong.

OK -- no offense to Oz's game (go Hawks!) -- but I'll mix it up.

Any recs or other advice here for locating a lake place in Minny or maybe western 'Sconsin?

I spent a lot of time growing up on Mille Lacs, Lake of the Woods and Rainy, but none of those fit the bill. Looking for something smaller with decent water quality and a fair chance of hooking an occasional dinner. Fancy isn't necessary but a certain level of spousal comfort ...well ... is. I'm fairly familar with the Aiktin and east-central area, but I know there's much more out there.

And, because this is a football board, the place should be in a couple of hours' drive of Clemens.

While you guys are busy discussing fishing lakes, footie, beer and other things not remotely related to MIAC football one of your own has been nominated for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame as a divisional player candidate.  Most of you Johnnie fans probably remember him.

Blake Elliott, Saint John's (Minn.)-Wide Receiver-Two-time First Team All-American and winner of the 2003 Gagliardi Trophy...Two-time MIAC Player of the Year who holds NCAA All-Divisions record of 47 consecutive games with a reception...Led SJU to 2003 DIII national title and owns 29 school records.

A few other DIII players have also been nominated.

And a few good Minny-Wisc. coaches there as well, Warhawk.

Malosky is an automatic HOF'er in my opinion.  He was a great motivator of young men and a great college football coach.

Considering I've never paid attention to the NFF HOF I'll be interested to see who gets in. Is this a first ballot/only ballot kind of thing? Or have some of these people been around for a while? If any DIII coach gets in this year, you have to assume it will be Larry Kehres. I'm really too lazy, or too disinterested, to look at previous classes and see how much attention DIII gets.

Johnnies Ranked No. 9 by The Sporting News, Hanson Named a Preseason All-American

Here's the top five from that poll:

1. Linfield
2. Mount Union
3. Whitewater
4. Mary Hardin Baylor
5. St. Thomas

Does anyone else think Linfield is a bit too high and St. Thomas is a bit too low?

Hmmmmm maybe. Linfield played without their Jr. starting qb for most of the UST game but when he was in the game Linfield looked very good.

I saw that list somewhere and I was shocked to see that Bethel was not in the top 25. Pre season lists are nothing to hang your hat on so  :P

So I know this is outside the scope of football, but sometimes it's good to share your excitement with friends. My wife wanted to gift me a new guitar to celebrate a recent achievement and, after some soul-searching, I decided to get a Gibson. She ordered one from Sweetwater, who send you pictures of your guitar once it's shipped. So without further ado, say "Hello" to my little friend...

This question depends greatly on the size of your checkbook. In my opinion, Green Lake in Spicer is the premier lake in central Minnesota. It's not too far from Clemens Stadium, but's it will cost you.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Lots of people here buy places down on the beach.  The Mrs and I figure we can rent a top place for a couple weeks in the summer and avoid interest, maintenance, property taxes.  Cabins/beach houses are nice but I think they tie up too much money for me and  sort of force our summer/holiday choice.

Different strokes for different folks. I've always been the footloose and fancy free type of guy.

You either got to be footloose or fancy free Oz. You don't get to be both. Myself, I'm out of luck on either one.

Rev, congrats on the new ax. I've had the same Stratocaster since 1974, and it was used when I bought it. I think it sounds better the older it gets, although that may be due to a loss of hearing.
