This pic reminds Pep of an encounter back in fall 1975 at the then pristine grass Merrill Field at Alfred University. Pep had brought his Morrisville College roommate to Alfred to catch an Alfred football game and, arriving Friday afternoon, took him down to the stadium to show him the meticulously manicured natural turf for which Pep's grandfather was responsible. We walked right out on the field at the 50-yard-line when suddenly, an old bulldog-faced guy emerged from the field house just beyond the north goalposts and barked, "Get the hell off the field!"

That was none other than the (legendary) AU Coach Alex Yunevich (177-85-12), who is on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame's 2017 class.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Any recs or other advice here for locating a lake place in Minny or maybe western 'Sconsin?
And, because this is a football board, the place should be in a couple of hours' drive of Clemens.
This question depends greatly on the size of your checkbook. In my opinion, Green Lake in Spicer is the premier lake in central Minnesota. It's not too far from Clemens Stadium, but's it will cost you.

Lots of people here buy places down on the beach.  The Mrs and I figure we can rent a top place for a couple weeks in the summer and avoid interest, maintenance, property taxes.  Cabins/beach houses are nice but I think they tie up too much money for me and  sort of force our summer/holiday choice.

Different strokes for different folks. I've always been the footloose and fancy free type of guy.
I also subscribe to the Oz theory, but I can get behind the Green Lake recommendation.  Any lake with a Zorbaz qualifies as comfortable enough for the whole family.  Also can't overrate the nicer weather that comes with being a couple hundred miles south of the Northwoods lakes.  It was hovering around 50 and windy most of the weekend up on Vermilion, but the walleyes came out for the night bite.

Also, less traffic headed that way versus heading north.  Mrs. Duff's family has a place on a lake about 10 miles NW of Green Lake.  We hop on Highway 55 from the metro, and traffic rarely affects us.

Beautiful sunset, AO.  That's a nice finish to a day.

One thing I really appreciate about American sporting clubs is that they protect their brands ferociously. Australia, and particularly the AFL, is currently swept up in the idea of novelty dual branding. It's a stupid idea. And frequently results in vomit. This this jersey that Hawthorn will wear next week on a Cancer Council initiative.

Thank goodness SJU doesn't have the money to come up with ideas this stupid.

A little preseason teaser from Gene today: http://www.tommiesports.com/sports/fball/2015-16/releases/20160607jtof3n

Also, former Rutgers WR Donny Diaz joined the UST coaching staff (https://twitter.com/Donny_Diaz88).  Looks like he will be coaching DBs.  Prior to joining UST, Diaz was a DB coach/recruiting coordinator at Ellsworth Community College.  Diaz is a fellow St. Paul Johnson alumni, so I'm sure he is happy to be back in the Twin Cities area.

Appreciate the advice. The hunt continues. I managed to squeeze in a little bit of cabin scouting on a 72-hour trip back over the weekend. Thanks to all who weighed in. Nice stuff, AO. Haven't been to the Spicer area in years, but SJU roomie's family had a place there and enjoyed it a lot.

Personally I would look around Hackensack/Longville. Beautiful north woods area, not too far and you can hang with Johnnie Red who has a lake place around there as a bonus.

We'll be looking for a place in Dunn County, WI, in a few years.

It's a bit out of my budget, BDB.  Care to float a loan?  :)

You can be my neighbor right now.

Five bedroom, lakefront, three-story, large block of land at the end of cul-de-sac for $599k (and they may accept a little less if they really want to sell)?  I can't even begin to estimate what place like that would go for here anywhere near two hours away from the city.

That's some pad.

BDB

Agreed. You can get a lot of house here for the money. I do think it is priced to sell though. I think more around 700k would be normal asking price. Still cheap in most markets.
