It's pretty much us old guys here. "Has beens or never was" so to say. Unwritten rule by the propriter of this site,Pat Coleman, no active players posting. It's a good rule in my opinion and most coaching staffs have similar rules regarding social media sites.

BTW, football is just a small part of what we discuss,if you haven't noticed. We particularly like beer, fishing, hunting (guns & ammo) and rodeo bucking bulls  ;)

And the reason(s) I pop on this board from time to time even living in eastern Sconnie with attachment to the MIAC schools.

We also talk about agriculture and biology. Or rather those proclivities that draw certain people toward wanting to understand bovine relations and others toward (U)STD research. 😀

So, incoming freshmen are you attending captains practices and if so how do you like it?

Yep -- we don't have any rules against current players posting but most coaches do.

yikes...seems like a good way to give his teammate (#14 in the first one) a concussion.

I really don't understand that sport.  After learning rugby, I tried watching ARF through that lens, but was left equally confused.

Love Massey when you get deeper into the season, but I dont understand how a computer poll, that takes strictly quantiatative data, works before the season. Is it more or less, where last season left off? If I recall that was about where the season ended.

Well, G&B, I could find a 'How to play AFL' video or you could just come down for a couple weekends and I'll bring you up to speed live and in person. :)

It's just not the same unless you're on the edge of being dangerous and just plain obnoxious and 8 or 9 Carlton Draughts will get you there  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Massey takes a 5-year weighted average of season results (more recent seasons are given more weight). In my system, I use a 4-year weighted average, and once Kickoff comes out, adjustments for the number of returning starters (each RS is worth ~1.5 ppg). It's a far from perfect strategy, but provides pretty decent results. On average, about half of teams in the Top 25 will remain there at the end of the year, but it seems like at least one team per year drops from the Top 40 to below #100.

Bill Connelly over at FootballStudyHall.com does some pretty great preseason ratings for D1, which take into account a 5-year weighted average of the team's performance, 5-year recruiting average, and % of offensive/defensive production returning.

It's One (Hawthorn) v Two (Sydney) tomorrow night up at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It's a big match as the Hawks are a game clear at the top of the standings and a win here virtually guarantees home field advantage through the playoffs.

But what brought me to post was this quote from the Hawthorn coach, Alistair Clarkson, as he was interviews by reporters at the airport this morning:

“Everyone in the media wants to declare a premiership favourite every week, and it’s great for the viewers and listeners and readers. But for those who are in the game, we couldn’t give a toss who is premiership favourite at this point in time — it’s who’s playing the best footy in September and early October."

Australia cracks me up at how casual profanity is considered normal conversation. No one even blinks when the coach says he thinks that favouritism speculation is not worth a little casual masturbation.

Did he get that quote from Crash Davis in Bull Durham?
