I'm looking for a great Johnnie football image to use for my iPhone lock screen. Nothing I find in the internets fits well or looks quite right. Does anyone have a photo they like that they're willing to share?

Ha!  I walked into those.

Happy to help. And to see that my karma was not struck too intensely for these cheeky shenanigans.

Looked over the game notes for BU's Dubuque game and was a little surprised to see that Dzurik got the nod over Anderson at QB.  Maybe Anderson's off season surgery set him back a bit, as I didn't feel like I saw anything last year that set Dzurik apart, so I would tend to go with the younger guy with the higher upside, over the senior who seems to already be fully developed.  I'm sure we don't have the full picture, of course.

Maybe Hazzben has some insider info to share...

Art, I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost my mother, who was just a few years older than your sister, awhile back. The death of a loved one, especially someone so young, is an emotionally draining experience that thankfully can be overcome with the passage of time and lots of support from family and friends. Know that you'll always have plenty of the latter on this board.

I heard Dzurik a few days ago. Essentially sounds like both have had a really good camp. Part of the take on Dzurik last season was that the Oline was so patchwork it would have been rough for anyone back there. With those guys healthy and deeper in experience, hopefully that's not an issue going forward.

I also like that Anderson has a little more time to make sure his knee is 100%. Bottom line, I like having two QB's with starting experience and ability battling it out. Good to have depth, good to have competition.

The Star Tribune ran a few stories on the MIAC yesterday evening:

http://www.startribune.com/st-thomas-quarterback-option-is-deep-with-division-i-talent/391962161/

http://www.startribune.com/gustavus-and-st-john-s-name-division-i-transfers-as-starting-quarterbacks/391962101/

http://www.startribune.com/storylines-for-minnesota-s-division-iii-football-teams/391962091/

It's funny how these articles celebrate the fact that a number of MIAC schools are attracting D-I transfers, yet UST is the only one that gets called out in the comments for bringing in "ringers" and being a "scholarship level team."  We usually hear this kind of stuff late in the season, after a few too many successful trick plays, but now the UST haters are coming out before the season even starts.

When I read the UST article, I took a deep breath before going into the comments and wondered to myself how many it would take before somebody calling for us to move to D1/D2/FCS. Second comment.

Serious question (that's probably been hashed through before here before my time): Was the same chatter around when St John's was at the peak of their dominance? If not, is it because of St Thomas's metro location or some other factor? Or more tied to our performance in all sports?

Oh, there were definitely plenty of folks saying that about SJU, but I don't think it was to the same degree.  SJU wasn't winning titles in basketball, baseball, etc on top of being dominant at football.

So why is UST given more heat on that angle? Let me start by saying I don't think they need to leave D3 - but my guess would be 1 - Perceived wealth of the school - it perhaps "feels" like a school with the resources of UST shouldn't be playing in D3.  2 - Size.  UST's undergrad enrollment is considerable larger than the rest of the MIAC, which probably makes them feel out of place to the rest of us.

Again, I'm not advocating for their departure.  I believe the level of play has been elevated in the MIAC since UST became relevant again, and we aren't just looking at SJU and maybe one team that can challenge them every year.

Once Roberts is gone, I think they'll come back to the pack a bit - not to say they won't win the conference again in 2017, but having a guy like Roberts who is so clearly physically playing below his potential division makes a huge difference for them.

With Roberts as a clear outlier last year, I am really excited to see how things shake out this year with various D1 transfer QBs in play.

A bit nervous that St Thomas has it's 4 toughest games all on the road.
