What's the word on Bethel these days?  I know DBQ hung 70 on them in week one, but is that a real indicator of what they will be for the rest of the season?

It seems like they haven't had much of a problem scoring points (they scored 53, 34, and 44 so far with a season low of 13 against Concordia). Is it just that the 2016 version of the Royals have no defense?

I hope this week isn't a trap game/Johnnie-Tommie hangover for the Johnnies.

My cousin decided that this was an acceptable weekend to get married, so I'll be listening from Sioux Falls, but if Dubuque can put up 70, the Johnnies should be able to put up 90.  :o

Says on d3football.com that the Hamline Pipers are 3-0. Dark horse?

Something named Justice Spriggs also threw for 450 yards and 6 TDs against GAC.

Saturday looks to be a beautiful day out here.  I will be trying to find a way to listen discretely as we take our 6-month-old daughter to an apple orchard just south of Sioux Falls.

I will be perfectly satisfied if it's out of reach for the Royals by the end of the first quarter.

They're the Gustavus of 2016.  ;D

The Concordia game will teach us a lot.  Their next games are against Carleton and the Oles so they SHOULD come into that game undefeated.  I still don't know how good Concordia and Bethel are this year so who knows? Can't see them doing better than third in the conference though.

Classic.

When things settled down I did gift my 2003 DVD to Bench so he could see an MIAC team actually win a national championship.

In 2010 when UST finally beat SJU, as soon as the kick clanged off the upright securing UST's victory an SJU fan kicked me as hard as he could sending me tumbling into my friend who ended up tearing his meniscus.

The SJU fan promptly fled. I do not hold this against all SJU fans, just that particular d-bag. Some people get it, some people don't.

VOJ doesn't get it. The girl flipping Erdman off doesn't get it. MOST people on here get it. Some don't. Just the way it goes. If you can't be good natured about it, you're probably a d-bag. Pretty simple.

I think all too many people were not taught the Golden Rule. Being rude (especially in front of children), not cool. Giving players the finger, eh... not something I would do (or would have done at 18-22 years old), but whatever. But assaulting a opposing team fan? That is not acceptable. I am horrified and embarrassed to read this. I don't know if you mentioned it before and I missed it, but that is just so wrong. I hope your friend is fully healed.  :-[

I am a huge VOJ fan and as much of a homer as he is. That being said, I don't listen to opposing teams broadcasts and get upset if I feel they are slanted or not praising the Johnnies and their coaching staff enough. I don't get upset if they celebrate their team's successes and downplay the Johnnies'. I understand that I am not their target audience. This isn't a national broadcast where one would expect impartiality. This is D3 football where the announcers know the players (and often their families) and the coaching staff well. They have longstanding relationships with the school and the program. Clearly we differ on what we expect from an announce team, but I AM VOJ's target audience and I find him highly entertaining. While Mark might homer out on air (and on Twitter), I doubt he is walking around the stands getting in Tommie fans faces, swearing and shoving them. I would bet that if you introduced yourself to him, even as a Tommie fan, he would be perfectly pleasant to you.

You are right. Those folks are actually employed on the SJU coaching staff.

On a serious note, I was not impressed with what I saw from my alma mater's student body (well, in one sense, perhaps I was, but I'm a happily married 32-year old father of 3). Not the greatest representation of any school.

As far as VOJ is concerned: I have no problem with him as a homer. It's the idea he puts across that everything that UST does is bad and dumb and wrong.

Spriggs is a very good QB.  Was at the game last week and he stands in and takes the hit to deliver the ball on target and keeps getting up.  GAC just seemed to man up and he tore them apart.  Surprisingly nimble for as big as he is.  For what he has around him he does extremely well.  They won't challenge the top 2 of the conference just because of the supporting cast, but he's a very good player and the best QB I've seen so far this season.  Though with the talk on here I haven't seen SJU's yet.  Maybe i'll check out the BU/SJU game Saturday.

I guess the point is, there is no need to be embarrassed. As a CSB grad you're not responsible for every piece of garbage that came out of that school, nor am I responsible for every d-bag that went to UST. Plenty of great folks at both schools, plenty of d-bags at both schools.

I grew up in Grand Forks and went to UND games all the time as a kid, back in the day when the opposing team had to walk through UND's tailgate (that would NEVER fly now). The vitriol between NDSU and UND was way worse than it will ever be between UST and SJU. I remember one game when I was about 9 years old a 20 something NDSU student said if I so much as looked at her she would "f**king beat the s**t out of me." Fun times. Threatening to beat up a 9 year old.

Now I live in Fargo of all places and UND/NDSU have only played once in the last 13 years (NDSU jumped to FCS 5 years before UND did). Hopefully that changes soon because it sounds like UND is making a move to join the MVFC for football, but I don't think it will ever be the same.
