Ha!  Turned on the TV and it's the Yada, Yada, Yada Seinfeld episode. Classic.

I called someone a "raging anti-dentite" a few days ago and he looked at me like I had really tossed out an insult. I had to explain it to him.

QuoteSo the school was certainly receptive when St. Peter first broached the subject of playing at Target Field. And with St. Peter saying the Twins have agreed to make St. Thomas whole financially in exchange for giving up a lucrative on-campus gate, there was nothing to lose and a lot of valuable publicity to gain.

I don't understand this statement.  What does, "to make St. Thomas whole financially in exchange for giving up a lucrative on-campus gate," mean?  What is U$T getting (aside from publicity) if they are not getting gate sales?

A tradition unrivaled...

It sounds like the Twins are going to run the whole show and just pay St. Thomas a guarantee.  This way the Twins are motivated to sell tickets and will promote the game.

Guessing the Twins get the revenue, but are cutting UST a fixed check for what a typical Tommie - Johnnie home gate might be at UST. 10,000 paid x $10 = $100k check. Just guessing though. Pohlad pocket change.

Breaking... SJU press conference announced for this Friday. The 2018 game will be moved from Collegeville to Brainerd Intl Speedway. This should be considered as DIII's response to the Bristol Motor Speedway game this year. Yee Haw!

Also, breaking... Tom Linn... I mean John Sharkman's BFF Glen Perkins will be in attendance for the 2017 Target Field game coin toss. It will be the only game appearance he will make at Target Field next year, after being pro-actively put on the DL for the entirety of next season.

In other breaking news Carleton has petitioned to move all their home games to Northfield High School in an attempt to keep that winning streak alive.

Mr.MIAC

Here's an interesting story. Something tells me the MIAC doesn't win many cross-admit battles with the Ivy League. That being said, UST is still aspiring for "Boston College of the Upper Midwest" status so this is a step in the right direction.  ;)

That's kind of a folksy heart warming story; something you'd expect to hear from a school nestled in an idealistic setting in central Minnesota...but it's just UST. ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

I'd say there's no way there's a $100K guarantee.

Some of the other things that were talked about at the news conference were the opportunity to provide a special experience for the student-athletes, so that's something in addition to publicity.

The Bennies will soon be upgrading their facilities.  Wonder if CSB is doing turf on one of the soccer pitches so they can have a dome too.  By the end of 2017 the athletic facilities at CSB / SJU will be some of the best in D3.

I've heard from a reliable source that U$T will "break even" on this deal.  Also U$T and SJU had to get a waiver from the MIAC presidents to allow beer to be sold at the event.  The way I understand it the event would have been a no go for the Twins w/out the beer sales.  I guess they figure at least 10-15,000 will buy two overpriced beers and help them make a profit on this.  The Twins also set the ticket prices and will provide security.  With an average ticket price of $25 bucks and maybe 20,000 in attendance they could take in $500,000 plus concessions.  U$T will likely get about $100k payout.  Security and wages for workers would be a few thousand $$$.  My guess is the Twins figure they can make $300k...enough to sign a ****y pitcher or utility player for next season.

If Boston College is known as the school where people that don't want too high a standard go.

QuoteEven Xxxxxx’s grandfather attended Yale during World War II, but Xxxxxx said after a high school career of high standards, he wasn’t looking for a full commitment to an Ivy League college and a Division I sport.

I'm still around - been busy.  The Gusties are showing a great deal of skill in shooting themselves in the foot with ill-timed penalties that show a lack of discipline. Major factor in the last three games.  Some of the injured are returning back to the team and the offense looks pretty good - well balanced.  The defense is pretty good on the line and in the middle but has problems in the defensive secondary.   Probably a combination of talent, scheme, and play calling.  The dbacks need to be more aggressive on 3rd down plays. Of course any defense is going to have yards put on them if the offense can't grind first downs out.
My son is having fun and is doing well in the JV games. He's also had a couple of performances with the bands he's in and looks pretty good in a tux.  Due to an injury with one of the lineman above him in the depth chart it looks like he might be playing this Saturday against St. John's - next man up.  He's ready, the Johnies linemen will need an extra long soak in the ice bath after taking him on. ;D
