Would anyone agree that St. John's could have the best defense in the country? The way they have been playing the past month has been ridiculous
The D has been great but they haven't been challenged too much except for the dreaded BYE :o

Statistically yes...SJU is best in points per game (11.1) and yard given up per game (194) however they still have to play the Cobbers.
Concordia is giving up over 300 yards per game but also average 354 yds per game.

Stats don't mean ****e on Saturday.  It will come down to which team excutes best and wants it more.  Lately SJU has been a bit sloppy on offense...hope they get that cleaned up.

What five letter word ends in "e" but still needs to be blocked out?  Faunch's post has my mystified.

Not the best in the country. They have been playing well but, the competition has been sub-par. Their Strength of Schedule has been talked about extensively. I am cautioulsy optimistic that they can have a strong game against the Cobbers and squeak into Pool-C. I'm a huge SJU backer but I wouldn't be surprised if the weak Strength of Schedule comes back to bite them by being omitted from Pool-C if they have a tight victory against the Cobbers.
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

If SJU wins on Saturday and does not a get a playoff bit then I will call BS.  I know rankings don't really mean that much but SJU is currently ranked 8 nationally and has won first round playoff games two seasons in a row.

I think if SJU wins Saturday, they should be safely in. Possibly the second Pool C team selected (UW-O) based on conference and team reputation.

I'll await analysis by those who follow such matters even more closely, but I think Wheaton and Hardin Simmons (in whichever order) would go in before SJU.  But DO agree that a 9-1 SJU is a veritable lock.

SJU is in with a win but the committee can only use last year's playoff performance to differentiate between undefeated teams.

I think there's a pretty good argument that Concordia should stay in the regional rankings with a loss unless another team manages to get a ranked win in the last week.  It has never made any sense to penalize teams for losing games to higher ranked teams.

Week 10 SOS scores:

30 .561 Carleton
37 .552 Bethel
63 .530 Augsburg
73 .525 Gustavus
100. .511 St. Thomas
103. .509 Hamline
115 .504 St. John's
181. .466 Concordia
223. .426 St. Olaf

How this week's games will affect the respective team's SOS:

Augsburg is done for the season, so there SOS will not change. Gustavus and Carleton will move towards each other, by how much is dependent on the outcome. Same for the rest of the pairings, but here is what is a bit interesting this year. With the Tommies playing the Oles, They'll probably get dragged below Hamline putting the top three teams as determined by record with below the MIAC average SOS scores, with only St. Olaf below them. I wonder if other conferences experience this same sort of thing.

It'll be interesting to see the SOS scores next week after the last game of the season.

St. Thomas has nothing over Augsburg as far as trick plays go. Evidently they thought they needed to pull out all the stops in order to have a chance against Bethel today and it worked for the first half. Started off the first drive with a fake punt on 4th down for a first down and ended up getting a td on a pass from the running back. On the ensuing kickoff, they did a successful onside kick. They also tried a lateral to an offensive lineman who was going to throw it but ended up running it. But the strangest play was on a 4th down punt formation, the center faked the snap and just held it between his legs and waited for a couple seconds while someone who lined up on the line came around behind him and took the ball from the center and ran it for a 70 yard td. I've never seen that before and still don't know if it was a legal snap or not. The refs weren't sure either as it took them a while to discuss it but they finally decided it was a legal snap.

Needless to say it was an entertaining first half with Bethel leading 35-27 at the break. Bethel then dominated the 2nd half and won 62-27, throwing their own half back double pass for one of their tds. Before anyone corrects me, I know, there is no such thing as a double pass - it was a lateral and then a pass but it is commonly referred to as a double pass.  ;)

Would love to see video of this...any chance it will be nominated for a play of the week?

Any thoughts if this was a legal snap?

SECTION 23. Snapping the Ball
ARTICLE 1. a. Legally snapping the ball (a snap) is handing or passing
it backward from its position on the ground with a quick and continuous
motion of the hand or hands, the ball actually leaving the hand or hands in
this motion
(Rule 4-1-4).

If the ball was indeed held for a couple of seconds as reported, I'd argue this is an illegal snap as the motion had stopped and the ball had not left the snapper's hands.
