Johnnies looking for a home game, not looking to travel

I know people on this board like football, wrestling, and beer, not necessarily in that order, but here is a link to the shot that beat UST in the conference tournament.  If you don't like basketball, VOJ calls the almost buzzer-beating shot.  SJU plays Bethel tonight for an automatic bid to the D3 tourney.

End of basketball news.

Heck Of a game tonight at Robertson center.  Johnnies brought it.  Brutal call to put BU up 2 with 40 seconds left, but sophomore sensation David Stockman gets an and-1 to put SJU up 1.  BU regains the lead with maybe 10 seconds an SJU turnover with a few seconds left seals it.

Johnnies return all their weapons next year, they will be a tough squad in 2017-2018.

Go BU!

Congrats to Bethel, what a great game.  I was watching the Bethel Stretch broadcast and the even the Bethel announcers didn't think Tussler (which makes this a football post) was fouled, maybe he just lost the handle?  Bethel caught a huge break, but that's the way it goes sometimes and they made the most of it.  The MIAC seemed really balanced this year and was fun to follow.  Good luck in the tournament.

Well, being the first conference team with a dome on campus,it's no wonder the Auggies are dominating  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Ah, man. It's another sad day. Bill Paxton died today from complications in surgery. If ever there was a person that spoke his own epitaph it was Bill Paxton.

So with some time to kill, I ventured into the newspaper archives and found about a dozen stories from John Gagliardi's early coaching career. From taking over a Carroll program that was about to drop football, to him defending officials (!) to him blaming the refs for a loss to Gustavus, to his hockey coaching career to when the "boy wonder" took over another lost cause--the SJU football program. Was fun going back in time.

Yes, that was the brutal call to which I was referring.  Tiny amount of contact, Tusler lost the handle, and the contact, which absolutely wasn't a foul, was interpreted as one, putting Tusler at the line and giving BU a 2 point lead.  A Stockman and 1 put SJU up 1, followed by a BU score with maybe 10 seconds left to put bethel back up 1...then a Stockman turnover, and an SJU intentional foul with a couple seconds left sealed it.

However, you're right, isolating a bball game down to 1 call is a silly endeavor...I thought there were probably 3 or 4 50/50 charge / block calls that all went SJU's way, so who knows how that potentially spins things later on.

Regardless, one of the more exciting MIAC games I've ever seen.  I think SJU has to be the early favorite for next year, given that they pretty much bring back everyone significant, especially with how David Stockman emerged as such an offensive force this year.  He's going to have a 2 year reign of terror on the MIAC, I think.  UST could always reload (they have a history of doing this), though, so who knows.

Done with the off-football topic, though ARF and wrestling posts of others have set a precedent for this.
