I think SJU has to be the early favorite for next year.
earlier on the hoops board...

UST has to replace Captain Cool, but surely has the deepest talent pool in the MIAC.  I'm going to stick them at #1, because history has proven it's foolish to do anything else.

SJU brings back all of their guns next year, and man, if Stockman even only improves a little bit from sophomore to Junior, wow....they'd perhaps be my 2017 favorite, if not for UST's ability to get there every year?
I'd say you're covered if UST or SJU wins the league next year.  Just to be safe I'd make Bethel your favorite on the baseball board.    ;D

Poorly worded, but it makes sense in my head, and that's what matters.

What I'm trying to say, is that I feel like, looking at the squads today, who graduates, etc, SJU has everything they need and more to with the MIAC next year.  However, it seems like year after year, we assume (we being the non-UST fans on the hoops board) that UST will take a step back based on graduations, but they keep managing to with the conference, regardless of how things appear to us outsiders.

BTW, heckuva game for your Eagles vs. CSS!  Were you at the scorers table running the PA slot?

Yeah I agree, Tommies until proven otherwise.

Yes, was running the PA while keeping on eye on Bethel vs. Johnnies as Northwestern looked to be cruising to another UMAC championship blowout.  Credit to Scholastica for coming all the way back but the little evangelical schools in the North burbs were not going to be denied Saturday night.

Huh?

@FlyRy7: Happy to announce that I have received a scholarship offer to play football at Saint John's University #GoJohnnies

::)

It seems that everyone has to, sadly, pump their tires a little.  It's unfortunate that people are less and less able to be happy with who they are and what they can do. I blame the Kardashians.

So with some time to kill, I ventured into the newspaper archives and found about a dozen stories from John Gagliardi's early coaching career. From taking over a Carroll program that was about to drop football, to him defending officials (!) to him blaming the refs for a loss to Gustavus, to his hockey coaching career to when the "boy wonder" took over another lost cause--the SJU football program. Was fun going back in time.

Nice. Thanks, Fury, I'll read a bit as I have my sandwich during lunch.

I don't know, I think we've maybe stumbled onto a major scandal?  Are Coach Fasching and the Johnnies offering athletic scholarships?

Congrats to Bethel, what a great game.  I was watching the Bethel Stretch broadcast and the even the Bethel announcers didn't think Tussler (which makes this a football post) was fouled, maybe he just lost the handle?  Bethel caught a huge break, but that's the way it goes sometimes and they made the most of it.  The MIAC seemed really balanced this year and was fun to follow.  Good luck in the tournament.

Done with the off-football topic, though ARF and wrestling posts of others have set a precedent for this.

Just to clarify, beer is never off topic on this board  ;D

Now that Pat McKenzie (SJU's NCAA Compliance Director) is finished with basketball season he will be launching a full investigation into this matter.

Frank signing off . . . with a parting shot about the SJU Chat.

Nice!  I'll miss reading his stories, even though they were SJU based, he was a great asset to the MIAC.  The fact that he made it through those live chats every week was incredible.  Even more so that Coach Fasching did them for a whole (or most of?) season.

Any word on whether he'll be backfilled directly, or if the other sports writers will pick up the pieces on SJU coverage?

When Frank was reassigned a little over two years ago, the Times had one person that took over Frank's SJU coverage duties.  But, given the dwindling nature of print media, there is no guarantee how the Times will fill that space.  My spitball guess would be that there will be a dedicated writer for football and the rest of SJU athletics gets covered by committee.

One last hurrah from Frank:  Johnnies still searching for a game in 2017
According to D3Football.com (a trusted source) under Open Dates, UW-Platteville still has an open date 9-9-17.  ::)
