Eau Claire is better than Scholastica but the Tommies still beat them 104-13 in the last two years.  Not sure that did a great job of preparing them for any close games later in the year.  If you're a top 15 team you're going to have trouble finding teams to give you good competition.
That in a nutshell is why SJU is looking for an opponent on 9-9-17.
At this point, pick a team, pay them $5K + travel and get a game scheduled. :-\

And if the Jays don't play?

A scenerio something like AO describes here:

Platteville got in this past season with 2 losses.  Concordia's low SOS last year could have prevented them from getting in at 9-1.  Playing a down Eau Claire team and an NAIA almost eliminates you from at-large consideration before the season starts.
The Johnnies will be ok SOS wise no matter what they do thanks to Scholastica.  Scheduling an NAIA team, a D2 team, or just not scheduling anyone for your 2nd non-conference game like Linfield does is just a missed opportunity to change your SOS.

I was busy raising kids and working hard and never noticed the rise of the moniker "Auggie Tech" which I assume was conjured up by the ubiquitous SJU and UST players that were sitting on the bench during one of those 49-0 blowouts during the dark years of Augsburg Football. :'(

LOL.  So, the "dark years of Augsburg Football" are over?  :P

Hey - Oh  ;D. I too thought the Hvistendahl days were the bright years and they were in twilight now. MAGA. Make Augsburg Great Again!

Hvistendahl was great but you have to give plenty of the credit for those years to the QB Derrin Lamker.  Let's face it, the MIAC was totally different back then.

Thanks, AO, that's what I suspected. The Jays are under no particular post-season pressure to add a game.

Ps. We neglected to note the recent occasion of your reaching positive karma. A multi-year journey and no small event considering how far into the negative you were. TDT can only dream of such a social achievement. Congratulations.

Man, sometimes having only girls can bite you in the backside.

#3 is having her 12th bday party tonight which includes an 8-girl sleepover. #3 and her friends are at the fire pit in the backyard toasting marshmallows and making smores (the advantage of an American heritage) while Mrs Oz and I sit with #2 keeping an eye on things to make sure no one cooks themselves (the sugar rush is leading to increasingly loud and crazy behaviour).

Mrs Oz says to #2, "You should invite your friends out to pizza and then back to sit around the fire pit and roast marshmallows for your birthday (15 in June). It will be winter then a fire will be really nice."

"Yeah..." says #2 looking sideways in my direction.

"Don't worry," says Mrs Oz. "We'll sit in the front room and watch footy."  (It's currently the men's preseason and the first regular season for the new women's league. A women's game is playing on the tv in the family room which we can see through the window).

"Yeah," I agree.  "I'll be ready to watch some real footy by then."

"Dad! You are such a sexist!"

"What?"  I ask flummoxed.  Sheesh. It ain't easy being the only guy in the house.

I don't know if there are any old metal-headed Metallica fans like me here, but a friend just send me a link I'll share:

You've been away from the U.S. too long, Oz.  ;)
Here in the land of the free and the home of the easily offended your internal filter probably would have kicked in before you ever said it.

How do you give up an 8 point lead w/ under 40 seconds to play and lose in regulation?
This is how.

Not sure if any of the Johnnie alum in here knew Fr. Bryan Hays, but he passed away recently.  He was a one in a million guy that befriended a lot of Johnnies over the years.  He ALWAYS made me laugh.  His obituary is incredible.  RIP, Fr. Bryan!

They may not be under any post-season pressure to add a game, but I'm sure they could use the money another game up in Collegeville would generate.

Duff, no intention to slight your most recent post, or Fr. Bryan, I must have posted at the same time.  I'm sure many have good memories of him, especially the football players who could tell Mom and Dad, "yep, I'm going to mass every week" in the fall.

Men's Hockey final in the MIAC Championship game tonight... Augsburg 3 - U$T 2. Augsburg was the best team in the MIAC all year, I'll tell you that for free.

It starts with a trickle, first basketball, then hockey...and like a small crack in the wall of a dam which suddenly becomes a breach with flood waters emptying the mighty structure. What's next? baseball, track & field....FOOTBALL  :o time will tell, but it appears we may be seeing the loosening of the chokehold UST athletics has demonstrated on the MIAC in recent years. The kids are seeing more than the limestone buildings at Cretin & Summit and realizing that carrying around the lifetime label of being a "Tommie" just ain't worth it  ;)
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Hey Oz, the "Halloween Machine" is back in the HS State Hockey Tournament! And who do they play in the first round? Duffman's school district. GR vs. MG baby!

And surprise, there's Hermantown the #1 seed in Class A at 26-1-1.
