Back in the early '00's the Johnnies has a great team anchored on a phenom goalie.  Middlebury was always in the way.  I was just glad to highlight that Middlebury has taken their aggression from the ice to classroom.  Now, if we can just get some rioting at Mount and UWW then life will be grand.

The MIAC was a little slow to catch on that when they were playing a St Norberts or some of the east coast schools, they were lining up across from 21 year old freshman and 25 year old seniors. By quick glance the St Norbert's roster is stacked with a bunch of 91,92, and 93 birthdates (24 -26 year olds). Many of the east schools follow suit. Recently, MIAC school have started going the Jr route and taking a few of the leftovers that D1 will not offer a scholarship to. But, it is still less prevalent than a lot of D3 hockey.

True with St. Norbert (SNC) and now everyone else but unless I am misunderstanding you, there are very few MIAC hockey players now that play right out of high school. Each team has a roster full of former jr.players. I agree it took the MIAC longer to catch up and arguably we are still a bit behind SNC, UWSP, Adrain, Norwich and others but we are clearly in the world now of 20-21 year old freshman. Augsburg is ranked 8th in the last poll and UST 15th so I think you can assume we are getting closer to the likes of SNC and UWSP. The west region teams have really done a good job of recruiting these guys and have won 5 of the last 6 National Championships. Middlebury has dropped off but Norwich and Oswego have picked up the slack in the east.

Hard to know where they stand until they face off but we will see next weekend how Augsburg handles the titan SNC program. They learned a lot last year in the playoff loss.

Must be some wires crossed here, I could swear I was on the football board and not the hockey board.   ;)

It's an all northern final. Apparently this is the first time it's been all northern since Rapids lost to Roseau in '07. I followed that game with interest as well but it doesn't seem like it was seven years ago. Time flies.

Can anyone confirm this? https://twitter.com/SJULB22/status/838526136955068417

20,000+ tickets six months out?

Not sure about the 20k but I do know all the premium seats ($99 and  $70) are gone as are all seats in sections 7-17,119-123, and only limited seats remain in sections S,T,U,V 132-138 and 237-240. Sections 124-131 and 1-6,101-104 are all reserved for Students. It appears only club level and upper deck tickets remain en mass. I learned this while attempting to purchase 8 seats. I would think once the students purchase their tickets and the casual fans interested in the novelty make their purchases you could see 20-25k in attendance.

Trent Klatt is the first former Mr. Hockey Minnesota to coach a team to the state championship,in between was a great career as a Gopher and 14 years in the NHL.
Another fun fact:1980 was the last year The Rapids won a state title as well as the year Grand Rapids native Bill Baker was a member of the Miracle on Ice Olympic Hockey Gold Medal team.

That was a very good Rapids team. In the fall of '79, I'd moved to the Falls after a couple of years out of state. The home Iron Range Conference opener at Bronco Arena had Jon Casey in net for visiting GR. In what is great about HS sports, a kid named Tom Herzig put four pucks past Casey in a 6-2 win for legendary coach Larry Ross and the Broncos -- Casey went on to college stardom and the NHL. Herzig, after a nice career at UMD, is now a successful dentist.
